View Full Version : Did I drop a stitch or not?

I'm knitting my first sweater and I fear that, about 15 rows in, I may have dropped a stitch in my current row. The problem? I'm not sure if I really dropped a stitch or not.
I have attached a picture and am asking for the help of my fellow knitters. I'm currently working on a row of purls, as you will notice by the position of the yarn.
So, does it look like I dropped a stitch? If I did, how do I fix it? I read the info in the Stitch n Bitch book about how to pick up a dropped stitch, but it was a bit tough for me to get the hang of.

it doesn't look like it to me but have you counted your stitches to see if you have any missing?

It doesn't really look like it to me either. You would have a column of stitches unraveling. What does your work look like from the right side?

I don't see a dropped stitch, either.
It looks like you could have picked up your knitting and started working back in the wrong direction at that spot. The only way to be sure, though, is to unknit to that spot. If your yarn is suddenly on the wrong needle, then that's what you did.

I agree, it doesn't look like you dropped a stitch there to me.
I frequently think I may have dropped a stitch because of how loose things look when my needles are in the same position as yours. But it never turns out that I did.
My way of figuring out if I dropped a stitch is usually to pull outward horizontally on either side of where I think the stitch is dropped. If you really had dropped one, then it would continue to unravel and you would see a more decisive column where the stitches were coming apart.

this happens to me sometimes, i think a stitch has dropped and it's just a bit loose. i just use another needle to gently pull the yarn by following the yarn on that row on either side of the loose stitch until it evens out.
