OMG I can't help but tearing up.....thank you for sharing this wonderful video, at least for me... You don't know how many times I wish I could cry out loud and want someone to give me a hug..thank you again for such and inspiring moment. It is so good to know that there are still people out there who only want the smallest things and they are so easy to give.

I was diagnosed with cancer last month. I am in Boston under going chemo and radiation for 6 weeks. I have met with Dr's, nurses, social workers, etc. Cried i have many times. Not one time has anyone in the medical field given me a hug when i needed just one.

Are these people so amune to cancer they do not think that a cancer patient needs a hug once in awhile?

I can understand how you feel Anne but I am afraid that might have something to do with the socity we live in. As a teacher we have a similar situation "physical contact" is as near as forbidden in England. You can't even comfort by touching or hugging a child who is crying. I am lucky that this situation has not got to Spain..yet,.. but I am sure it well. It is hard and there are times you hug a child because they need it but you have to protect yourself against law suits.

This does not help you in your hour of need. All I can do is send huge heart felt hugs across the sea to you.

I did think about that but thought naw not in a cancer institute, NO HUGS? but i think your right.

Next time i see my nurse i am going to ask her why hugs are not seen around this famous cancer hospital.

I take my knitting with me as sometimes my waits are long. Only once have i seen anyone else knitting.

I can say that every now and then you meet some great doctors and nurses. I had a c-section in February and my family was forty five minutes away so didn't get to visit but once a day for a short time. I was there for three days and I had a nurse that stayed and cried with me because I was lonely and my doctor gave me lots of attention. She didn't need to see me that first morning but came in to check on me because I was so upset because I had to have general anesthia (sp). I think some doctors just have a better bed side manner than others.

Thanks for the link- I just sent it to several friends. :muah: :happydance: :muah:

Anne, I do think that doctors and nurses 'especially' in a cancer facility should hug at least once. Maybe they need some volunteers to just offer to escort people around and 'give a hug here and there' if they can tell that someone needs it.. (but, hello.. wouldn't most people in that place be in the need of a hug? Even if for pure happiness that they had gotten a good result?? Much less the more common reasons that someone would appreciate a hug there-- stress, fear, distress, being worn out from trying to be brave.)

So.. here's a hug all the way from Korea:

How totally awesome is that? It reminds me of the Dave Matthews Band video for their song Everyday. Some dude goes on out on the streets of NY (I think) and offers hugs to people.

"physical contact" is as near as forbidden in England.

Um is that so? I've never ever heard of that. I know us English are somewhat reserved and tend to have a stiff upper lip but I've never heard of physical contact being forbidden in schools, homes or hospitals. When my father was dying of cancer the nurses were very kind and gave out hugs whenever he asked for or needed one.

Edit: and that guy, and that place (in Sydney) is awesome =D What a great thing to do.

I saw the man on TV offering free hugs. Perhaps people laugh at him or think he is a tad wacky. Myself i give him a lot of credit. It takes guts to do that in this crazy world we live in today.

I would like to add one more thing to this post. Please everyone get a colonoscopy once a year regardless of your age. I know Dr's and insurance companies are saying every 5 years. WRONG............

ANY BLOOD IN STOOL OR TISSUE CAN MEAN TROUBLE. OF COARSE NOT IN EVERY CASE BUT FOR YOUR OWN SAKE GET IT CHECKED OUT AND IF NOT SATIFIED WITH THE DR'S ANSWERS GET A 2ND OPINION. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH.

DO NOT BE AFRAID OF A COLONOSCOPY, THEY ARE PAINLESS AND MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE.

I HOPE I HAVE NOT UPSET ANYONE BY SUGGESTING THE ABOVE AS I REALIZE THIS IS A KNITTING SITE. I JUST WISH EVERYONE ON HERE GOOD HEALTH. :muah: :muah:
