please give me advice on yarn swift and yarn winder....i intend to buy this two together .... is the bigger better (i suppose the bigger one can use on doing swifting and winding smaller amount of yarn too ???

Wow. I've thought about trying to fashion a winder out of an old electric mixer or screw gun, but an egg beater! That's pretty clever! (Sorry I don't have any real advice, but I just had to comment... don't have any pictures, do you?)

I have the umbrella-type swift (http://www.yarn-store.com/images/winders-and-swifts/swift-finished-birch.jpg) that attaches to the table--it can handle any size skein; I have the standard Royal ball winder. I've never had a skein be too large for it. I also think that if there was a skein that would make a ball that large, I wouldn't want it that big. After using half of it, there'd be a tangled mess of hollow skein.

I bought a ball winder and swift a while back...I bought the red and white winder--not the royal and I bought a metal swift. I hate them both. I don't know why I hate them exactly...they feel flimsy and I don't have a table that either will attach to anymore. I oftent hink that had I ordered a wooden swift (I didn't b/c of the cost) that I'd be happier my purchase. Now for the ball winder...I'd have to do some research b/c I've yet to find one that I didn't was cheap. Just mho. For me...it's okay that I don't have them b/c I don't purchase a whole heck of a lot of yarn in handks and I deal with skeins by hand. If I do need one--what I have works...it just take me holding one and dh holding the other...which come to think of it...defeats the whole purpose doesn't it...?! :??

OKay here's what I would do. Go here (http://joann.com/search/search_results.jhtml?CATID=3&keywords=%22winder%22&_requestid=696893) and the two i have are the winder at the top right (the black and white picture) and the wood swift in the middle at the top.

Then I would go here (http://currentcodes.com/) and find the best coupon deals I can find. I would PROBABLY place them as two separate orders so I can use two different coupons (off the regular price NOT the sale price) but you can play with them and see if you get better pricing with buying both and getting free shipping or whatever. You can only use each code once (I tried... )
