View Full Version : What yarn should I use

I want to make a scarf made of something that feels silky (doesn't have to be silk), and made with a fine yarn. Any ideas?
The store I went to had something called "Fresco" and was $10.99.
Does that sound OK?

Thanks for any input.

If you like it and it works well with the pattern you have in mind, go for it.

Zephyr comes in a DK weight. It is 50% merino wool/50% tussah silk. It is wonderful yarn. It's available in lots of colors also. If that's not fine enough for you then it's also available as a laceweight. Halcyon Yarns carries both:

Psst...Sarah's Yarns has the Zephyr for about half the price: http://www.sarahsyarns.com/JSZephyr.html

I don't have Zephyr, but I do have some 50/50 merino/silk in my stash and it's wonderful.

You are all so knowlegeable and generous.

Now, one thing leads to another..

I don't know what to order: for example, I don't know what 2/18 means, I don't what a cone is..?

See what you get for being helful, more questions.

By the way that lace zephyr looks like what I want.

Thanks again. :muah:

Personally, for a scarf I would order the DK weight (4/8 ). The cones are 1120 yards -- you probably don't need that much :D -- she does sell it in 2oz balls too (140 yards). 2 would probably be enough...3 if you want something unusually long.

thanks. Now I know the basics to begin.

I'll let you know when I begin this project. I've never did something without a pattern.

I hope I don't cry too much when my frustration tolerance reaches it's limit.
