Oregon that is! I'm going for a long weekend in December. We have limited time. I think I could convince my travelling party to go to ONE knitting shop while we are there. So if you live in or around Portland what one shop would you go to? Are there any shops that carry locally "grown" and or processed wools there? I know there used to be a ton of little sheep farms all south of Portland.

Sure wish I had time to do a wine and wool tour!

Here is a pretty comprehensive list of all the yarn stores in Portland (with links and phone numbers and photos)

But for my money I would go to the Yarn Garden if you only had one to go to. It's the Mecca of yarn stores. If you want local yarns (but on the pricier side) then go downtown to Knit/Purl. It's a smaller shop but has a whole wall of Blue Moon that is local. Northwest Wools in Multnomah Villiage is good too (and Mult vil is very cute with boutiques and restaurants and stuff) also Lint in NW is good too. If y ou need a tour guide let me know.

What an awesome site! And I love the link to the trimet website. I miss having real public transportation. $5 for a whole day for public transportation is such a bargain!!! All those yarn stores, public transportation, season, vinyards, and someone who has offered to play tourguide! LOL!!

Yarn Garden isn't too far from where we will be staying, so I could probably walk there (although I may need to take my rolling suitecase to get home!) :roflhard:

Thanks for the wonderful link.

I used to live in Portland and now I'm not too far from it. But I only learned to knit this year, so beleive it or not I have not visited any Portland yarn stores. Seems like lately I only go to Portland for un-fun reasons. The Yarn Garden is supposed very fun and cool. It is on Hawthrorn which is a very fun and cool street, so you will want to see more there than just the yarn shop, perhaps your co-travelers would enjoy it. There is a branch of Powells books there, the Bagdahd theater. Lots of cool shops and cafes. I know there are a couple other good yarn shops in Portland as well. Have fun.
