Take a look at the Abbreviations Explained tab from this website:
http://www.onlyslippers.com/womens-slippers/all-womens-slippers/products.cfm?action=view&key=ACR020 It explains many things that you would find in a knitting pattern, and many have videos to go along with them.

And of course if you run into something that has you completely stumped, just ask here - there's always people willing to help.

I took a class to get started and that helped so much. Now I look through the pattern and find simple ones. Things I don't understand I look up here. The Abbreviations Explained tab is great.

I started really making very simple dishcloths. After the second one I was more daring and confident. Now after I've done a handful more projects, I'm branching out into even more complicated patterns. I've gotten lost a few times and the help here is great!

For me, the slipper link only worked in internet explorer, it wouldn't work for me in firefox.
