Me too! I'm doing Glorianna, but since I've barely started, I figured I'd just make that my Lacevember project because I won't be able to get to it 'til next month anyway.

Which one are you doing?

:cheering: :cheering: I'm happy ya'll are joining! I think this is going to be such fun!
I think that I will probably begin with "A Touch of Whimsy" scarf for me in the same Molly colorway that I did the hat, then the fingerless gloves (or vice versa). And, if I still have time I'll start on one of the shawls...probably http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y119/rebeccame/th_rufflesshawlfromvogueknitting.jpg (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y119/rebeccame/rufflesshawlfromvogueknitting.jpg) :cheering: :cheering:

I think I joined, but I haven't gotten a response yet. :?? This sounds like it could be fun, something different from my usual sock knitting. I plan to make my Mom a shawl for Christmas.

i joined as well! I'm making this (http://www.internationaloldlacers.org/DianeWilletPOM/dianewillettPOM.html). :eyebrow:

My little sister is getting married in January, and as her proud matron of honor, I'm in charge of securing the garter and "something blue."

This'll take care of both!

I joined. :)

I've never tried lace knitting before so I'm thinking of trying some sort of easy; not sure what -- branching out, maybe?

Good thing they don't mind crochet! I know I can do that if I bugger up my knitting. ;)

I once saw a shawl that looked like peacock feathers... but I don't remember where I saw it. Anyone know this pattern?

Laura, I think you mean this one (http://www.fiddlesticksknitting.com/PeacockLarge.html), right?

I'm loving this! I love reading about what everyone is going to knit! LOL, the garter is a great idea!

I can't wait to see everything :cheering:

I've already started this shawl:

https://www.alpacanation.com/alpaca-products/03_view_product.asp?name=103724

but I'm not sure I like the way it's turning out with the laceweight yarn and I may frog and do it with a fingering weight. I can't decide. I'm only about 30 rows in, and it starts at the bottom, so it's not a big deal.

I love lace! Both projects I'm knitting now (VK Holiday #2 and #3) are in lace, one in lace weight yarn, and one in chunky. Lace made in chunky yarn can be pretty, too!

Joking aside, I really like that!

I love, love that dragon shawl, too, how cool!

Knit-Errant, you could use the dragon design in an afghan for your hubby! I think Branching Out would be good, too! I think that it was my 1st lace project, too. I didn't use lace wt yarn, I think I used KnitPicks Merino Style and it looked very nice. That scarf is just gorgeous!

Momma Jo, #1 and #2 are stunning! I'm totally in love with #4! I am going to have to have that capelet, don't know why, don't know where I would ever wear it, but I'm going to have to have it!! For those of you who don't yet have Holiday Vogue, you can see some of the patterns here (http://www.vogueknitting.com/magazine-preview.shtml), under Grace Notes, #2 that Momma Jo is referring to is the 1st one and the cape is the 2nd one (duhhh, LOL!)

C'mon-- look at my signature DRAGONWINGarts?? I must have one!

And yes- that was the peacock feather pattern I was hunting for... but now I may need to change my plans...

Hi Rebecca,

Most definately :) In the recent digest, I'm the one commenting that I had to get the pattern... emailed her and will be paying via paypal later tonight after I get done balancing the checkbook. She even answered the questions I had as to how much yarn and what size needles I need to pick up. I absolutely cannot wait to start this!!

What size needle did you use on your shawl ????

Jouf
10-27-2006, 08:03 PM
On the one in my blog I used a size 5. I'm doing the second one and am using a 3 and I like it better in the 3. I did the entire thing and had some left over, but not much. (Anyone contemplating the Swallowtail shawl with this - I did do five extra repeats of the first lace pattern)

Rebecca: "I'm bookmarking it!
I don't really like to knit with lace wt yarn, I love to knit lace patterns, but lace yarn akeers me" -- ah, don't be scared. Try it, you might like it! That shawl I did with it was my first time with lace weight. Didn't realize how much difference a size or two in needles would make. What about getting two skeins of it and knitting with it doubled?? Still only be $16 for a shawl. Though I sure wouldn't do a pattern with nupps and the yarn doubled..... :-x

Color dilemma-- I'm going to use Knitpicks Shadow https://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/itemid_5420127/yarn_display

I can't make up my mind if the Dragone shawl would look better in Lost Lake, Sunset or Vineyard... anyone used Lost lake? Is it more green or more brown? Depending on the monitor I use, it looks different. Any thoughts would be welcome! :) If it's more green, that's what I'll use. If not, I'll have to debate the other two colors.

Mine is in Sunset, which is more orangey than I thought it would be, but it's still ok. I haven't seen lost lake, but the vineyard looks beautiful, too. I'm finding the Shadow to be a little fuzzy (well not really fuzzy, but it's getting a little hard to see a lot of stitch definition). Maybe it will be better with blocking? I should work on it a little more just to see if I think I should continue with it. :wall:

Rebecca, I'm kind of seeing your point about the lace weight. I think I like the weight of a heavier yarn. The lace shawls are more like decoration than anything.

rebecca
10-29-2006, 09:54 PM
I have several shawl patterns, a couple Fiber Trends Leaf Lace and Flower Basket shawls (http://yarn-store.com/knitted-shawl-and-scarf-patterns.html) are written for anywhere from lace wt to light worsted...I have dk and worsted yarn for these shawls. I've got worsted for the vogue lace shawl, too...and for another! I want my shawls to be big and warm.
Maybe one day I will like it, but now, I just don't like knitting with lace, gets on my last nerve and we all know that ain't good :roflhard:  :roflhard:

Jouf
10-29-2006, 10:37 PM
I'm with ya, Becka. I think I want more warmth than decoration too. Right now am trying socks with a lace panel front and back. Hmmm... Do you KNOW how many socks I have started and abandoned the last year? More than I want to admit. I have made three pairs of socks fairly successfully. Don't know what my problem is. But this pair seeeeeems to be working out.

I think I'll try fingering weight or DK on my next shawl. I did that flower basket one too. Just used some microfiber yarn I had. It didn't turn out too big. Need to add more repeats. How was yours?

rebecca
10-29-2006, 10:43 PM
LOL, mine?! Not yet knit...still waiting :roflhard:  My problem is I get requests to knit this or that for others and/or the design bug strikes so I've not yet knit one shawl!!!! I had hoped to be knitting them already and on thru winter, but the D Bug bit me and I won't be able to cast on for one until after I finish the "A Touch of Whimsy" series...I've just got the fingerless gloves and socks to design and then knit one of the scarves for me...then a shawl, I hope...of course, I've also got a Christmas sock design that I'm knocking around :roflhard:  Hopeless, I tell ya, I'm hopeless :roflhard:

The pattern is not offered online yet. Here's the link to their website:
http://www.aurora-alpacas.com/

There is contact information up at the top left. When I ordered mine, I e-mailed her and she gave me the price ($12) and I mailed her a check. I think she also takes Paypal. There's also a phone number you could call. Good luck!

Already working on a lace scarf and the next project will be lace too. I love lace!!!

I was a total beginner when I started the Branching Out scarf, and I found it to be very easy once you've struggled your way through the first repeat. So Georgiasmama, just give it a try.

So....how goes everyone's Lacevember thus far?!
I am thoroughly enjoying the shawl that I'm working on, even though most everyone that is knitting in Lacevember is actually knitting with lace wt yarn! Me, I'm plugging away with my worsted wt yarn, knowing I will love and wear the end result!
I also did that which is unheard of for me...I cast on and began another project, yes...I have 2 projects OTN! My honey loved the socks that I recently gave him and he asked for another pair, so, even though I am the Monogamist Knitter, I had to begin a pair of socks for My Honey! So, I'm designing the "Lonnie Socks" for him and knitting the shawl. AND, since project #2 is for my man, it's not killing me to have 2 WIPs
