View Full Version : Knitpicks felted tote

I'm confused about a pattern posted on the KP site and would love it if someone could help me figure it out.
The pattern is this -
Farmer's Market Tote with Needle Felting (http://www.knitpicks.com/Projects/itemid_50402221/projects_display)

I want to do this pattern in a solid color, or maybe using two colors. The pattern says you need 15 balls for a small bag. This number seems a little off to me. 15 balls of Wool of the Andes is about 1650 yds. Similar bags like these two - Booga Bag (http://www.blacksheepbags.com/booga_bag.html) and Coco Bag (http://www.gogetyoursmock.org/TheCocoBagWeb.pdf) - use only 324 and 660 yds respectively and even the size and guage is similar.

Am I missing something here or does 15 balls of yarn sound too much to you too? Has anyone ever made this pattern before?

Thanks so much for the help!

You hold two strands of yarn together for it, and also it ends up being quite a bit bigger than Booga or Coco, so that is probably why you need so much yarn for it.

Thank you!!
That's what I had missed - it's worked with 2 strands!

Do you think if I worked it in size 11 needles using only one strand it would still be ok?

Thanks again.

If you use only one strand you'll want to use either US 8 or 9 needles. If you use 11 it will be more lace like and might not felt together properly. Plus, remember, if you single strand it you'll end up with a much smaller bag.

Good luck!
