Hello again -
Since I had such a quick and helpful response with a previous
question - I thought I'd ask the experts again. I am knitting a
Rebecca sweater pattern and am not sure how to do the armhole bind
off. It says "bind off for armholes at each end 5 sts once, then dec
1 st on every 2nd row 4 times as follows......." The question is -
for the 5 stitches at each end - should I do the "decrease bind-off"
as described in "Vogue Knitting" as: Knit 2 stitches together through
the back loops; one stitch remains on the right needle. Slip the
stitch from the right needle to the left needle, making sure it is not
twisted. I'm guessing I would do this 5 times. What do you think?

I do the Basic Bind Off (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/bind-off.php) but I don't see why you couldn't do the other.

I'm just a little confused because I read in Stitch N Bitch and you should never bind off at the END of a row because you will not be able to turn your work and purl back. Does that make sense? The way I interpret the pattern, it says to bind off at the beginning and the end of the row. Not sure what to do. Help!!!

No, it says to bind off at each `end', but that doesn't necessarily mean at the beginning and at the end of the *same* row. BO on the first row, work across, turn and BO on the next row and work across. Now you've bound off at each underarm. And the regular BO is just fine; that's what I always use.

OK - I have done as Sue suggested: bound off 5 at the beginning of my knit (RS) row and worked to the end of the row; turn; then bound off 5 stitches on the purl (WS) row and worked to the end of the row. I may be crazy, but the 1 row difference seems to be noticeable. It seems to me that the right side armhole will begin noticeably lower than the left side armhole. Am I being to critical and this is "just the way it is" and has to be; or am I still missing something? HELP!!! Thanks so much for any and all help!

Once the sweater is all together there won't be much of a noticable difference in heights. I just discovered the Sloped Bind Off after reading this post yesterday and I'm trying that on the sweater vest that I'm currently knitting. It *really* makes the armhole look better!! Click on the link in Ingrid's post and you'll find the video for it there. :)

You won't be able to tell once you have it finished. Nearly all patterns are written this way, so it's very acceptable.
