View Full Version : What would be a good yarn for baby legwarmer?

I just knit a pair of baby legwarmers for a crawling baby. And they got really tore up after only 3 days of use. I had Lion Cashmere blend (merino/cashmere/nylon), which was supersoft and not itchy, but it's not sturdy enough.

Any soft but tough wools or wool blends that anyone can recommend? Or do I need to forget about wool?

Sock yarns are often made of wool with a bit of nylon added to the mix for durability. Maybe you could find a similar blend in a heavier weight. Knitting at a tighter gauge is also supposed to help prevent wear on socks so I imagine it would also work with leg warmers. In the same vein, a more tightly spun yarn would probably also wear better than a fluffier one.

Thanks, Jane.

I also just found a company that make something like this, but used cotton/poly/spandex fabric. Can I get yarn for knitting with spandex?!

If you sew corded fabric patches to the knees it should give durabilty to the yarn.
