using this stitch pattern? I have a varigated colorway...two hanks of it. I thought I'd use one to make a scarf and the other to do a toque. I'm not sure if the stitch would just get lost due to the mixed colours.

It depends on the colorway, IMO. I've knit mostly with the ones that are almost-solid, with mellow color variations...I think it would be good for one of those. Probably not as good for the ones that have a lot of colors/color contrast.

Since it's only an 18 stitch repeat, why not do a little swatch and see?

I agree with Julie too. Usually with varigated colors you lose the design. Thats been my experience anyway. A "slight" variation in color seems to work tho. While only ONE color is probably best. :teehee:
