OK I'm new and I know how to read the charts on the labels to see what size needles to use but I just inherieted a bunch of yarn without labels. Is there anyway to find out what size needles to use?
TIA!!

Do you have a needle-size gauge? If so, double the yarn and see which hole it fits through easily but snugly. That's the size needle to use.
If you don't have that, maybe you can compare it to some other yarns you have?

You can also measure wraps per inch (WPI). (http://www.woolfestival.com/articles/WPI.htm) The link shows how to use WPI to help figure out how much yarn to buy for sweaters, which also comes in handy. The part you're really interested in is just how to measure WPI to estimate yarn gauge, though (see chart).
