I just bought a wonderful knitting book :muah: called "One Skein Wonders, 101 Yarn Shop Favorites"...edited by Judith Durant...see below....

One Skein Wonders
It has SO many nice projects in it. :cheering: Such as many pretty hats, shrugs, children/baby sweaters, many scarves, even some lace projects, handbags some felted too!! Has some felted flowers, socks, and one or two shawls. Really ALL very nice projects. Its for the beginner as well as the more experienced knitter. I highly recommend it. :happydance:

How much damage would this do to my budget? I'm thinking I want it for my trip (one skein projects = more variety!!) but I'm nearly broke. I do have a B&N discount card... perhaps I can see if they have it.

OK... Book arrived in mail yesterday... It is a must have book.. Now.. you can use the excuse to buy just "1" skien of yarn.. and not feel guilty! And there are awesome projects, not just coasters... there is a project for coasters, but they are even neet...lol

Now I can destash and not feel guilty when I add more.. what an enabler.

Also.... what a great way to try new yarns to truly see if you like them...

ok.. * steps off soap box.. sorry about that....

I'm glad you all like the book too!! I was really surprised at the great variety of projects in it. I am starting the hat on page 9 today. Luckily I have some chunky navy blue yarn in my stash. :happydance:

Last night I went thru the book and marked all of the projects I want to make. There were at least 10 of them. My 3 yr. gd looked thru it and told me what she liked too! :cheering:

I can hardly wait! Ya'll are making me drool, talking about the projects you've started. :roflhard:

Also.... what a great way to try new yarns to truly see if you like them...

That is sooo true, snowbear. I can't count on my fingers and toes how many times I've wanted to try a yarn, but didn't because I couldn't afford to buy much of it.

Great for destashing... I've got so many yarns I bought because they were gorgeous and expensive- now they have a purpose!!

What about this book? One Skein: 30 Projects to Knit and Crochet (http://www.amazon.com/One-Skein-Quick-Projects-Crochet/dp/1931499748/sr=8-1/qid=1163792825/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-7230052-6939157?ie=UTF8&s=books)? Anyone have any reviews for this particular book? I want to get one of these "one skein" books but don't know which one is better or more useful. Is One Skein Wonders for knitters only? I don't know how to crochet (yet).

I looked at both last night and I just liked the variety in the One Skein Wonders. The other One Skein book just didn't have as many projects that I personally liked. BTW - how do you think the curly scarf on p77 would look in Patons SWS? Just a thought... one for mom and one for mom in law :) Quick and easy!!

Trollgirl, the book " One Skein Wonders" has only about 5 crochet projects in it. A few bags, a collar, a couple of hats. It has much more knitting projects. Hope that helps you out. :happydance:

I started the hat on page 9. I have to say this first band they have me doing would make a beautiful cable scarf!!! This particular hat is knit in three different sections and directions. So this first section looks nice already. :cheering:

My LYS has two patterns in there! Loop Yarn Shop in Bayview (Milwaukee), Wisconsin!

11-19-2006, 08:38 PM
It looks like a great book are there patterns for begainers?

I think the patterns can be used by a beginner. I consider myself an 'advanced beginner".

I just finished the hat on page 9 and it came out lovely. I did NOT add the garter stitch on the bottom since I felt it looked beautiful without it. I'll be choosing a second project from the book today! :happydance:
