Awhile back, my mom commented that she missed the crocheted doilies and tablecloths that her grandmother made. That inspired me to try my hand at some vintage patterns.

I'm not really sure if I like it or not; I'm admittedly disappointed by the color of the butterflies. The stores around me are really lacking in crochet thread colors. :pout:

Anyhoo, this is a 1950ish pattern, worked in size 10 thread with a #7 hook. There's a full frontal action shot on my blog (http://knit-errant.blogspot.com), if anybody is inclined to giggle at me over there. Anyhoo, thanks for looking!

I think it's sweet!

What color were you wanting for the butterflies? I've seen some DMC Senso at Hobby Lobby in some nice colors, but it that a heavier thread that what the pattern calls for?

The butterflies are great! Did you need to starch them the get them to stand up well or do they stay on their own?

It's a little too heavy; its a size 3 thread, almost double the weight, I guess? There are a lot of really pretty Senso colors though! That might be the way to go for something a little heavier like placemats though... hm....

The butterflies are pretty stiff on their own, actually. They're essentially an octagon that gets folded in half. The pattern is here (http://www.crochetnmore.com/butterfly.htm). :)

I'd like to starch the doily itself though; need to get some of the spray stuff.
