Is there a way to tell what stitch I did for the last row (knit vs. purl)? I had to unravel and start a section over. In that section, I was doing stockinette stitch. I'm new enough at this I can't tell what stitch was done in the last?

If the stich has a "v" around it's neck under the needle you have knitted. If it has a horizontal bar going across it, you have purled. I also like the way it's described in the stitch 'n bitch book: if your stich is wearing a v-neck sweater it's a knit stitch. If it's wearing a turtleneck it's a purl stitch.
Oh, and when you're knitting stockinette, the side that has the rows of "v" is the "right" or knitted side, and the bumpy side is the "wrong" or purled side.

Thanks- hopefully I figured it out!
