I am making a hat and to this point
Divide stitches evenly between two circular needles or three DPNs.
6th decrease: *K7 (8, 9), k2tog* (repeat around).

I have chosen to do 2 circulars because I have tried to use DPNs and I get very confused. So I transferred my stitches and now I am not sure which ends of what needles to use to start. I assume I hold the needle w/ the working yarn in my right hand but what needle am I knitting off of?

If you hold the two circs so as one is the 'front' and one is the 'back', the working yarn should be coming from the far right side of the 'back' needle as you hold them in your hands. You will begin knitting stitches off the 'front' needle by using the needle tip at the opposite end of the same circular needle. Then, when you reach the end of that half of stitches you will turn the whole thing around so that the other circ is now in the 'front' and you will pick up the needle tip at the opposite end of that same needle and start knitting, the working yarn coming from the stitch farthest to the right on the other needle.

The one with the stitch that's right after the last stitch you made; that will have the yarn going back to the skein. It's really much easier to just begin knitting with the circular needle off your dpn, that way you won't lose track by slipping from one to the other.
