I have seen a couple felted hat patterns that use dpn's instead of circs and it got me to thinking whether either could be used? I understand that sometimes the circs are too "big" for the amount of stitches, but otherwise can you substitute the circs for the dpn's?

I need some kind of brimmed felted hat to make for my Red Hat Society Chapter. I am a new member and only have a red sun visor and would like to make a couple red and purple felted hats for my luncheons/meetings. Any suggestions? I need a fairly easy pattern that I can fool with to make different style hats.

Yep, just switch to DPNs (or magic loop or two circs) when/if the circ becomes too big for your work. ;)
