There is a great book called Knitting Fair Isle Mittens and Gloves (http://www.amazon.com/Knitting-Fair-Isle-Mittens-Gloves/dp/1579902537). If you can find it (maybe at your library) its a great resource. You may also try Ann Budd's Knitters Handy Book of Patterns (http://www.amazon.com/Knitters-Handy-Book-Patterns-Multiple/dp/1931499047/sr=1-6/qid=1165942125/ref=sr_1_6/104-5271166-9527920?ie=UTF8&s=books) - another excellent resource.

Hope this helps :happydance:

See if your LYS has Ann Norling. I love her patterns for mittens. Goodluck.
