View Full Version : OT: anyone else having unusual weather?

I'm in GA and it's 68 here today. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 70...isn't it still January??!?!?!?!?! This happened one year when I was in college b/c I remember wearing a t-shirt and capris to my final exams in december!!
Anyone else having weird weather??? I'm kind of jealous of the snow I see on the news....it looks like so much fun!
I hear it should cool off next week though...just in time for my inducement so my new little guy can be wrapped in all of the pretty blankets my knitter/crocheter friends have given me!

In SE PA it's almost 60 and off and on sun and showers. This winter has been unbelieveable. We've had temps in the 50s, 60s and 70s for most of the winter. We don't know how to dress anymore, if you wear a coat it's just too warm. I've been running around in sweatshirts and jeans on the cooler days. Tues. or Wen. the temps are supposed to get more seasonal, highs in the low 30s.

I live in Georgia too. :) Yes, this is very odd weather. I'm wearing a t-shirt today and I've decided to let my little Chichi outside to play. Normally it's so cold, I have to let him out to potty and then let him right back in. I hate it because in September I knitted and crocheted a bunch of Wintery accessories and I haven't had a chance to wear them.

well, not really 'unusual' since this time of year is supposed to be cold, but here in the south bay area it got below freezing both Thursday night and last night. it was already only 38 degrees when I was driving home last night around 2030. I guess that's unusual for this area.

Well, I don't think this is unusual for where I live (Southern Alberta, the prairies), but a week or so ago we had UNBELIEVABLE wind....it was hurricane strength, except for instead of water (it's very dry here), there was soil and gravel flying around in the air! Some of the gravel was the size of my thumbnail. My house happens to be in the middle of the city where it's fairly shielded from the wind, but I work at the mall, and they require employees to park like 1/2 miles away from the mall...I walked through the entire parking lot with dirt flying in my face, trying not to get knocked over - it was a nightmare!

I live in the Kansas City area, and our weather has also been weird. It's been unseasonably warm most of the winter. Last week, through Thursday, we were in the high 50s (maybe even low 60s) and then the bottom fell out -- it's 15 degrees right now and we're having an ice storm.

We were hit by a hurricane Thursday night! This baby here:
It might not be even close to the kinds of hurricanes that hit the southeastern coast of the states, but it's scary enough for me!
The harbor is flooded and whole parts of town are under water. And I live RIGHT next to the river....as in walk out the back door, small yard, small road, levee, water. Kind of scary sometimes.
Thursday night I laid in bed awake most of the night, listening to the wind howling and things being tossed around. At first light on Friday morning I went outside and checked to see if our roof was intact and if the cat-fence was still attached. (We have our yard fenced in so the cats can go outside but can't leave the yard.) All is well! :cheering:
It's freakily warm here and my tulips are coming up....in January!
I'm still wearing shoes to walk outside, here in Montreal. No snow at Christmas is believable, but no snow on the ground in the middle of January is VERY weird. We're back to normal temperatures now, but last week we had +15 Celsius (about 60 deg Fahrenheit)... VERY unusual for here.

It was in the 70's this past Thursday, and we had freezing rain the next day. That's Oklahoma for you.

It's been unreal here in Toronto. The other day we didn't even need coats! I want snow.

well I'm glad I'm not the only one....
flying gravel and hurricanes don't sound so great--I'm glad you guys are okay!!!
I just looked up our weather--the highs are: Sunday, 71; Monday, 70; Tuesday, 49?!?!?!? Perhaps it'll eventually do something normal....
I know it's the south and all but 71 in January is a little ridiculous. The daffodiles (SP?) are coming up already!! I keep seeing and hearing birds like it's spring!

I just dread the snow and ice 'cause I have a lot of issues with mobility and walking in the stuff is a real problem. It's been unusually mild in SE Michigan this year, but I guess it's coming. We have a winter advisory for Sunday and Monday. All I want to do is get to work monday a.m. and back home again without falling and breaking something. I don't mind driving in it; but I'm scared silly about walking from the car to the office door.

I am on the Oregon Coast and we got snow and still have it. It's been in the 20's here the past two days, which is unusual. It gets cold during the winter here but never this cold. To see snow on our sand dunes is very strange.
jodstr, I used to live in California before I moved up here. I noticed you said south bay area, do you mean the San Jose area? I used to live the Gilroy area and work in San Jose.

I dont think its been cold enough for long enough in Chicago for the ground to freeze properly. I dont know WHAT's gonna happen to my daffodils and tulips. Ive worn my Spring & Fall jacket more this winter than Ive worn my winter coat. VERY VERY strange. And worrisome.

This fall I planted 100 daffodil bulbs and assorted lilies all over my yard -- the other day I dreamt they were all coming up! :pout:
I did hear that it is supposed to get cold this week -- maybe winter will finally come to the Northeast!

Here in Houston it was 75 yesterday, today it's going to be around 57, and tomorrow it's going to be 38. :?? That seems crazy to me.

If by weird you mean 22 degrees and sheets of ice all over the sidewalks in Palm Springs California, then yes, we are having weird weather. You guys can't seem to get a winter and we're out here freezing our :!!!: off.
Good thing climate change is just a big hoax, huh?
Well, ours is a bit unusual for So. Cal - we've had snow! Ice on the pool! See blog.
