View Full Version : Need a simple quick Cardigan

I need help with two things. One is to find a pattern for a simple Cardigan. I am past the beginner stage, but don't want to do anything to complicated. A simple cable at the most. This is for my mom, who, likes sweaters to come down past her waste, and wants it at least worsted weight yarn. Can someone help me find a simple and quick cardigan pattern?
The second thing I need help with is she wants it out of white yarn. Trying to find a thicker white yarn has been a challenge. Sport weight, or lighter yes, but not the thicker stuff. Does anyone know a good supplier for white yarn?

Patons Classic Merino comes in winter white and aran, which is ever-so-slightly darker. It's a nice inexpensive wool, but it will felt, so don't machine wash it.
As for a pattern, have you tried http://knittingpatterncentral.com? They have loads of patterns.

You didn't say what fiber you wanted the yarn to be so here's a few choices that have white.
(You can search Joanns online catalog by fiber, weight, etc.. very cool!) These are chunky.
Paton's Shetland Chunky (http://www.joanns.com/catalog.jhtml;$sessionid$FC0FPQQAABBMKP4SY5NBHOR50 LD3OEPO?CATID=95768&PRODID=85763)
Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick (http://www.joanns.com/catalog.jhtml;$sessionid$FC0FPQQAABBMKP4SY5NBHOR50 LD3OEPO?CATID=95768&PRODID=47150)
Caron Simply Soft Quick (http://www.joanns.com/catalog.jhtml;$sessionid$FC0FPQQAABBMKP4SY5NBHOR50 LD3OEPO?CATID=95768&PRODID=87617)
Plymouth Encore (http://www.plymouthyarn.com/index.php?nav=cYarn.yarnSearch)is a good choice and it comes in either chunky or worsted in white
Cardigans from the top down would probably be quickest..no seaming. These are all pretty plain, but you could work in a pattern I think.
Raglan Cardigan (http://glampyreknits.tripod.com/glampyrephotos/id44.html)
Quick Knit Cardigan (http://web.archive.org/web/20041010232203/http://www.thesmartyarns.com/patterns/may03/quickknitcard.html) this has some seaming, but I just found it.. and like it.
Knitting Pure and Simple Cardigans (http://www.knittingpureandsimple.com/cardi.html)- not free, but good patterns.

Thanks for the web sites I will check them out tomorrow when I have a little more time.
I know my mom, and she gets cold easily. I would like no less than worsted weight, and something soft. I will check the sites out and see what they have. I will also check out the patterns. I told my mom she wouldn't get one this year, but would have it by next fall. She was happy with that.
