Hi all,

I have a friend who is due with her first baby in April. I want to make something, but I don't know what! Can anyone recommend a relatively easy pattern for booties, hat, sweater, or blanket? I've mastered knitting and purling, but I haven't gone too far beyond that. Also, I'm able to knit in the round on circs, but not on DPNs...yet!

Also, does anyone have any yarn recommendations? I  my LYS, but they barely have any baby yarn, so I'll need to go somewhere less familiar to find some.

Thanks!!

Here's a few. Also check Knitting Pattern Central. (http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory.php)
Sweaters:
Quickie Baby Sweater - pdf (http://d-made.com/knitting/patterns/Quickie_Baby_Sweater.pdf)
Quick Baby Sweater (http://www.minidata.co.nz/major/freepatt/patt01.htm)

Booties:
Seamless booties (http://megan.kiwi.gen.nz/SeamlessBootee/)

Yarn will depend on what the pattern recommends, but something soft and washable. There are a million choices, but here's a few.
