Hi all,
I recently started a katia pattern and it turns out that it is wrong. Katia patterns are written in spanish and then translated into english, so i'm trying to determine if there are any discrepencies.
Are there any spanish knitting whizes out there that could translate this??

thanks :)

Kerry

Ok my Spanish Is VEry Rusty but

Trab is short for trabajor which means = work( as in work 1 round)
sin= without
pasar - pass
por el derecho de la labor: for the direction of the work
hasta= until
cerrar= stop

Kerry,

I apologize for the delay - today was a l-o-n-g one for me. I don't know what you're making, but here's a translation, as written:

Part 1
Slip Stitch
Row 1 From right side of work CO 2sts, sl1,k1,psso
Row 2 & all after. Work in garter st. When casting off, move stitch off the needle and slip towards the ribbing

Part 2
Double Decrease
sl1,k2tog,psso

Swatch
With No 5 needles [US 8], worked in a combination of Stockinette, Slip stitch, and open stitch (?):
15sts x 20rs = 4" x 4"
If your swatch is not the same, use needles one size larger or smaller as needed.

Any questions, please let me know.

Knit on, chere! :xxx:

you're awesome, thanks landolphe.

I attached a pic of what i want to knit, but i can't even do a gauge swatch cause it keeps decreasing every other row and i can't figure out what's wrong with the pattern if anything!

Someone on the forum said katia has a lot of mistakes in there patterns so i was hoping to see if there was a difference in the spanish from the english.

Hi Kerry,

Happy to help out, chere! That's a beautiful sweater. I do not recognize the stitch, but it is very interesting. Perhaps, when the pattern says "open" stitch, it is referring to the pattern stitch (?)

I understand the Spanish completely; it's the English that stumps me. How about sending me the complete instructions in both languages, and I'll see if I can figure it out. :??: :??:
Peace,

Lando :woohoo:

well, it might just be too much of a pain :)

It seems awfully complicated to me!

STITCHES:

Dropped Stitch: k2tog, YO, slip 1, K1, PSSO.
On the next row knit the YO and on all following rows, work this st in garter st

Double Decrease: Slip 2 sts tog as if to knit them, K!, pass slipped sts over knitted st.

GAUGE:
With smaller needles in combination of ST.St, Dropped St and Double Decrease: 15 sts adn 20 row = 4x4" (CAST on 19 sts and work size 'a' to the second *, [18 sts rem], continue in established pattern for 4"

BACK (directions for A):
-with middle sized needle, cast on
A. 69
- work 1x1 ribbing for 6 rows
- change to largest size needles and set up pattern as follows:

A. K6 *P1, YO, work 1 double decrease, YO P1, K2, work one Dropped Stitch, K2, *; rep from * to * 3 more times; P1, YO, work one Double Decrease, YO, P1, K6 [65 sts rem]

- on all reverse side rows, work sts as they appear except for the 'dropped stitch', which is worked as garter stitch

NEXT ROW:
decrease 1 st at each edge every 8 rows 3 times [59 sts rem]

When back measures 9", increase 1 st at each edge every 6 rows: 3 times {65 sts rem]

then it goes into armhold shaping, the front, the sleeves..all that good stuff.

I know how to do the stitches (i think), but i don't get how i'm supposed to do the gauge swatch if it is always decreasing. either it's wrong or i don't understand

Hi Kerry,

YIKES! :noway: :eyes:

Well, the English pattern is clear as mud to me, I'm afraid. Send me the Spanish original and I'll see if they match on lineup. Could be it is like the English diirections that come in the manuals with some Japanese electronic products. :wall:

What I translated as "Slipped Stitch" could fairly be called "Dropped Stitch" but 'slipped' seemed closer to the intent. This is common problem in any translation; a word can refer to more than one thing without violating the context; and there a multiple words for the same thing. Example, I can think of 4 different words used for a knit stitch, varying from country to country in South America ... and Spain is yet another story. :passedout:

Cheers,

Lando

I didn't want to trouble you since it is so long! :)

Here it is though..hopefully i will type it all correctly. I might miss some of the accent marks in there so i hope that doesn't throw you off.

PUNTOS EMPLEADOS
P.jersey der., P.jersey rev., P.bobo, P. elastico 1x1: Ver pág. p. básicos.

ESPALDA
Con ag. nº 4 1/2, montar

A) 69 p
Trab. 6 vtas a p. elástico 1x1.

Hi Kerri,

If you are serious about he Katia pattern I will translate the whole of what you last sent me. Do you have their complete English translation? With both, it goes faster cuz I can just look at English for errors to correct.

BTW, Katia is a Spanish company, so one would expect their Spanish to be quite good (formal). Of course knitting has a language of its own. :teehee:

Peace,

Landolphe, who continues to suffer with his ribbon yarn triangular shawl from hell. :thud:
