Hi, I just have a quick question (I want to make sure I'm reading this right...) about a sweater I would like to try knitting.. it's http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/doreen/doreen.html

It says:
MATERIALS
BERROCO AIR (50 grs), 7(8-9-10-11) balls #3142 Geothermal.
Straight knitting needles, sizes 10 and 11 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
16 Length circular knitting needles, sizes 10 and 11.
1 St marker.

Does this mean I need at least 7 balls of yarn? Also, what kind of yarn would be similar to this (I don't really think I want wool...) in preferably Lion Brand or Bernat (I know where to find these brands in town... lol)?
Here's a description of the yarn they say to use:

FIBER: 78% Wool, 22% Nylon
BALL WEIGHT : 1.75 oz / 50 g
BALL LENGTH: 115 yds / 106 m
GAUGE: 3.25 sts = 1"/ 13 sts & 19 rows = 4" (10cm)
NEEDLE SIZE : 11 (US) / 8 mm
CARE: Hand wash in lukewarm water. Lay flat to dry.

Thanks so much!

Look for a bulky weight yarn that would be a #5, or one whose label has the same gauge. Go by yardage rather than number of balls because different manufacturers put different yardages in their skeins. The small (for example) takes 7 115yd balls which is a bit over 800 yds total. If another yarn is 135 yds you'd need 6.
