I didn't want this question to get lost in the last thread about this.

WEBS has this (http://yarn.com/webs/0/0/0/0-1185-1186-1201/0/0/2519/) combo for $65. What do you think? I can't tell if it is the royal winder or not. And I am a little leary of the swift because it isn't all wood.

The ball winder looks like mine.. its blue and white and has Royal on it.. I'm not sure about the swift.. maybe a google search would turn up some comments on it  or they might have a return policy for it... I tried to google for you but come up with nothing

yeah i am about 99% sure that it is the royal winder but i don't know anything about the swift itself. have you looked to see what the total for you to get the nice wood one and the winder would be on Joann's? i think it would be more than that but i am not sure with the shipping. and if is more, how much would be too much if it meant you had the wood one?

(that was me assuming that was even what you wanted in your swift :teehee:)

I've mentioned this before, but I think it's worth mentioning again... I have this swift (http://cgi.ebay.com/Portable-Oak-Yarn-Swift-Winder_W0QQitemZ140084248617QQihZ004QQcategoryZ136 2QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), and am very happy with it. It's hand-made, stores easily, is very reasonably priced, and shipping was fast, too.

Hmmm... looks like he has this new product (http://cgi.ebay.com/Portable-Oak-Yarn-Skein-Winder-and-Swift_W0QQitemZ140084131331QQihZ004QQcategoryZ1362 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) now too. It sounds like a good idea, but I'm having trouble picturing how it works. Anyone have any ideas? (One of the pictures is hidden, and I can't figure out how to get access to it. Tried two different browsers so far and no dice.)

in order to see the picture in the back go to where the picture is unobstructed and then right click and select view background picture. it will open a new firefox tab or window and then you will see the picture. But here is the web site for the picture alone.

I'm thinking about this too, but like you I'm having trouble visualizing how it works to wind the hank into a ball of yarn. My b-day is this week, and Mom and Dad have asked what I wanted. I'm thinking a winder and/or swift, but really don't know where to begin shopping.

I don't know why, but I couldn't get a context menu to show up for that pic, which is weird because I know I was able to do it before. Anyway, it looks like it's just a picture of the basic swift, not the modified one. Oh well. It's hard to imagine that it can be used as a swift and skein winder at the same time, since that would require two spinning mechanisms, don't you think?
