I've noticed that knitters, both on KH, and on various blogs I've read seem to be extreamely animal orientated. I was wondering what the breakdown is.

I have two kitties: Sinatra (because he sang a lot and loudly when I got him, and he had REALLY blue eyes) and Eshara (The Chaldean goddess of war. She fights like the dickins when she feels that any other animal is encroching on her "teritory")

I have 2 dogs -- a black and white springer spaniel named Lili who is going on 7 and not in the best of health and a rat terrier named Luath. I also have a cockatiel who has been with me for going on 14 years and a tank full of fish who surprise me every day when they aren't floating at the top of the tank because of neglect.

If it were up to my kids, we would have much more -- they want to replace the hamsters that have gone to heaven and my dd wants a kitty despite the fact that my ds and I are allergic to cats and ds wants a bearded dragon.

Since I'm the one who bears most of the responsibility, we'll just leave it as it is for now.

Best,
Susan

Two dogs here...the oldest of which just shocked us today. The younger one is a digger (I'm sure you remember some of my previous posts about Pele). He's taught the older one the joys of digging.

The older one managed to get under the fence today into our neighbor's yard. Only problem was that she must fertilize with cow manure. Aubie came out of that yard so stinky that my kids had to take her straight to the hose to wash her.

:ick:

We will be investigating the electric fence thing. :teehee:

This is Calvin, we adopted him from a shelter 5-6 years ago. And at that time, we did not anticipate that he would end up weighing 75 lbs!
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i25/hum39/Image002.jpg

and then there is Hobbes. I have had her going on 20+ years now. She is a cat who much prefers me to any one, including my hubby. Her interest in my knitting is limited to her laying next to me while I knit, and then acts like I am in her way!

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i25/hum39/Nov0905.jpg

We also had a rabbit named Miffy but she died last year, and then there was Turtle. He wandered into my yard and after I found out that he was not a native to southern CA, I built him a nice area in the backyard, but I guess he did not like it as he ran away from me! :pout:

Aw I love seeing everybody's pets. Jan your dog reminds me of a stuffed animal I absolutely adored as a kid! And Silver I love your cats' names--To Kill a Mockingbird is one of those books I gravitate to and re-read every few years.

Some of you have probably wandered into my occasional OT posts involving doggie pics. I've got a 2ish year old dog I adopted from a shelter in July. He's quickly grown from a scared (probably abused) and nervous skitterbug into a....well...Tasmanian Devil, as all dogs should be in their youth :teehee:. He's too smart for my own good, tons of fun and filled with personality.

He's got an on/off switch. He's either doing this:

at a 100 miles an hour.

HamaLee, your dog sounds like mine, The Mo. This is a photo from just last month. He's 10 years old, but don't tell him. My beloved has a shih-tzu, which was almost a deal breaker for me. I call him not-a-dog.

edit: The dog in my av belongs to my SO's son. We think she's badly inbred because she has no sense whatsoever. Lucky for her, she's beautiful and lovable.

I have me a pretty kitty. We call her Gypsy because when she was born she was living in one of those places that the woman "collected" kitties. The house was FULL of cats alive and dead. So sad. Thankfully the Humane Society rescued the animals from there and she was taken there. Then sent to a remote site then another before she finally came to live here. So she lived all over Omaha. It was fitting we thought. :)

Is mickey in a knitted basket? If so, do you know of a pattern?

I have 3 cats inside my room which are MY animals. My parents also call the cats outside MY cats, I guess they pretty much are because they spawned from my first cat, but I can't take them when I move. There's 4 outside (with 4 kittens too). My parents have a cat and 3 dogs. Sounds like a lot, but there's only 1 dog inside, a cat hides in my dads office room, and my 3 cats live comfortably in my room. Usually two are out of sight.

You left out a "small mammal" category, like rabbit, hamster, ferret, guinea pig, rat, etc. They aren't really very exotic animals (well, maybe ferrets which are illegal in some states), but I checked that one. I have a rabbit. I had 2 but the girl bunny (the smaller in the pic) died last December.

I have 2 dogs and 3 cats.

Dogs:
Jake 6 years old German Wirehaired Pointer

Greta 6 month Cairn Terror.. I mean Terrier

Cats:
Minnie 6 years old

Oreo 3 years old

And Cookie 3 years old

Jake is my Dad's dog... he always wanted a GWP since he was kid, so when we moved up here, he got his dog.

Great Monster belongs to me.... need I say more??

All three of my cats came from the humane society. Minnie actually belongs to my mom. She was the Mother's Day gift.

Oreo, is a gentle sweet boy. He was adopted from the Humane Society. He was actually returned once before I brought him home, their reason for him being returned was that he was too affectionate!

Cookie is my shadow. I adopted her and Oreo at the same time. They are not litter mates, but she was left at the gates of the humane society on a stormy night. The best moth catcher anybody could ask for!

We have the same problem with our cat named Cashmere. She hardly ever comes out! And when she does come out, she's too much of a big baby to stay up. Just walking near her will scare her away, or even talking to her (I call her fatso whenever she comes near me, but she's stopped doing that :teehee: ).

I bought Simon for her when I knew for sure that Wat wouldn't live much longer. She'll take him home once she cleans out the tank). In my room (dorm) we also have a shared community tank with 2 tetras, 2 mollies, a cory cat, and a loach. I am also working on a research project with 10 budgerigars, but they dont' belong to me either. I would LOVE to own some mammals, but like I said I live in a dorm... so I have to wait. Besides the three NAPPING DAWGS in the photo below, we have a Shih Tzu named Katie!

The St. Bernard is Harley, "Uncle Harley". Eight years old.
The other two are Treeing Walker Coonhounds, Blue and Dani. Under one year old.

What a delightful crew! The two hounds pile into "Uncle Harley's" house for naptime. He will eventually get up and get out. They are bed hogs! They have their own house, but they like his "heater attributes!!"

PS: the "cribbing" on Harley's dog house is evidence of "teething" coonhounds! That isn't all they have "teethed" on! Sigh. :pout:

We've got 8 cats (blended family). Pat's the oldest--she'll be 14 in August. Gram & Emmylou are siblings and will be 9 this year. My Fuzzy One (Nimue) will be 8, as will Valhalla. Nina's 6, Autumn's 5 and my baby boy, Dusty (short for Dustmite) is 3 1/2.

We've also got tons of birds & squirrels that the husband feeds. The possums and raccoons come at night. We'll be moving in a couple of weeks--he wants to bring them with us (and I think he's only half joking about this). I also count him as one of the "pets."

I'm also pestering to get a dog. We've got the house. Now we've got to get a dog. Of course, we'll let the cats get settled in the new place before we spring their new sibling on them. :teehee: I'd like a beagle, but the Husband doesn't like them. But he does like boxers, and there's a boxer rescue group in the area...

We have Smokey the cat and Cookie the dog. Smokey was a stray that decided to move to our house about 3 years and has never left. He got into a fight and my oldest son nursed him back to health. He sleeps with everyone in the house and on top of my yarn bag.

Here's my pretty kitty. Even though she's getting up there in years. She's 14 now, we got her when I was 4. Her name's Maddie. (I had wanted an orange or red cat. You know, the doll/show "Madeline.")

My chihuahuas are both hams with the camera. And Frank (the white short hair puppy) loves to double-deck with the collie. He's always on his back.

Here is another pic of my never to be seen cat, Cashmere. I had managed to grab her that morning after locking her in the room (I know I'm cruel, but this is the first time I've held her in months!). She went nuts after about two minutes, and meowed the whole time, the big baby she is. Just thought I should share:

She was actually meowing when my dad took this picture, but I think this captures how she's feeling.

Brokenblossoms, your finches remind me of my old finches, Tommy & Pam! -- they looked just like your pair. But, oy, that didn't pan out well. Their breeding got OUT of control -- we were giving birds to the pet store, to family members... Tommy & Pam were a good pair, but with each generation, the offspring got more and more cuckoo -- they would attack each other, and then the siblings were breeding with each other. What a mess. We eventually learned to control it by removing eggs from the nest, but not before witnessing murder! It was quite a crazy ride.

Now we have a dog and a beta fish. Ollie is our dog. He's crazy, but fun and extremely good-natured. The fish is just fish. Or pretty boy. He always seems a little miffed. But he's perky and blows his bubbles, so at least he's healthy.

Here's a pic of Ollie as a puppy (he's only 1.5 yrs now, but was even younger here.) He still tries to get on the kitchen table. He's also a *major* yarn thief and he eats scarves. It's a challenge. But a very, very, very very cute challenge. :)

Oh and the dog in my avatar is my parent's dog, Seppi. I just love that pic. He's an old boy, and not doing so well, so good thoughts in his direction are much appreciated.

I have 2 dogs, Boston Terriers and a cat. Well the cat does not claim to be mine, she only loves my DD and the hubbie. I brought home the dogs so she has disowned me. :teehee:

I couldnt find a picture of Bonnie, but I found one of Crash. He is just shy of this 3rd birthday.

Also a picture of Jester Ann. She really is a beautiful kitty... if only she wouldnt bring live birds into the house and let them go...

Poncho wants to be a singer, but can't quite master more than one word. His favorite phrase is Let Freedom Ring from a Sarah Evans song (He can't seem to get past "Let", lol).....he also likes the Bridge on the River Kwai and The Yellow Rose of Texas by Mitch Miller. I often hear him practicing early in the morning before I get out of bed. He also mimics the sound of the sequential beeps when we microwave something. Another sound he is very good at is our neighbor's squeaky lawn tractor.

Poncho is about 10 years old. I got him as a bargain in a local pet shop because he had no tail feathers...his cage mates used to pick on him and plucked many of his feathers.

We have one dog and lots of fish and some days I feel like I have two monkeys(my kids age 7yrs and 1 and a half) Yes that is the same dog in both pics. The people we got him from named him Kramer because when his hair is the right length he looks like Kramer from Sienfeld.
