I'm SO thrilled at having got that book, I've been wanting it for so long. I've only skimmed through it so far but the photographs are totally awesome. Yay!

Happy Birthday !! :cheering: I know on the KH page I should be excited about the book, but you will LOVE the V-slicer. I bought my parents one at a home and garden show while in high school and it was one of the first things I bought when I graduated from college. It is sooooo awesome, you can slice onions, apples, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots....comes in very handy when making soups or stews. However, always be sure to use the holder for the veggies as the blade is really sharp and takes chunks of finger before you know it...not that I learned this by experience after 4 trips to the ER

Yay for you!!! A lace knitting book AND a mandoline!!! Please let me know how you like this book. It keeps popping up whenever I'm looking at knitting things (I think it's trying to say, "Buy me!" :teehee: ), so I'm curious about it. Happy Birthday!!!

Thanks for the wishes, everyone, getting presents is so much fun :)
vaknitter, you're right the slicer sounds great! I read up the literature that came with it and some reviews. Can't wait to use it to make dinner tonight (that reminds me gotta go cook instead of surfing)
cookworm, if you like lace you really should buy the book. The photography is beautiful and like dustinac said the hard part is choosing what to try first. Most patterns are for intermediate or experienced lace knitters, so it'll be a while before I can make an entire project.
congrats on the digi cam, jeanie!

Thank you! You all are so sweet :)
I love lace knitting.. but I've only tried my hand at small stuff so far - swatches and scarves mainly. Fine, delicate fabric is my favorite, so a lace shawl is high on my list of priorities this year.
Unfortunately, I have no lace yarn in my stash and since I don't plan to buy yarn till July I guess I have to wait :pout: I do have sock yarn but not enough of any one color to make a shawl or stole from this book. gaaah! waiting is hard.
And I'm not all that fond of triangular or circular shawls, so I am reeeeeeeeeally happy to see there are some stunning rectangular ones in this book.

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY....that book ROCKS!!!! It really makes sense of the lace that looks so very complicated...or so it reads
