I don't see a thread for southwest Ohio so thought I'd start one!

My husband has a job interview in Cincinnati on Tuesday. I hope that he gets it for 2 reasons. First he has been looking for work for 18 months in SC and Second, if we have to move back to Ohio, I would love to locate in the Cincinnati area.

Love, In Christ,

Hi Kemp,

I live in Cincinnati. I am a very new self taught knitter. I have learned so much just by using this website. Though I love my new found hobby, I just haven't had much time to sit down and do it! Working a full time job, coming home to two demanding kids, and catching up on my chores (inside and out) leaves little time.

I've been trying to get some of my friends to knit so we have an excuse to all get together but so far they have no interest!

Thanks for starting this thread.

Hi - I am a self taught knitter, also. Have become a sock knitting addict lately. Taught myself how to knit socks on dpns and intend to learn how to knit socks on circs very soon. Now I want to knit a pr of fair isle mittens before I go back to socks. And then a seamless sweater (ala Jacqueline Fee/Elizabeth Zimmerman). And then....who knows!? I love, love to knit!!

Hi Barbara,

I just learned how to do socks also...I used Charlene Schurch's Sensational Knitted Socks book to learn. I did the class sock. I did two of them and they are both hilarious...you can tell they are socks but I made so many mistakes. I am very proud of them! It was a great learning experience and I think I know where I went wrong so I have started a new pair.

Fair Isle is a little too ambitious to me. :?? I'm barely passed the scarf and hat stage!

Hi Kemp -

Just wanted to day hi - I lived in Cincinnati for 20 years but moved to NY 8 years ago. I loved living in Cincinnati. It really is a great town. I lived in Mason for 15 years and then in the Milford area for another 5.

Say hi to Skyline Chili for me.... I can still taste it!

06-14-2007, 11:27 PM

Just click on the link for Skyline!

06-14-2007, 11:44 PM

Let's try this...

That's not fair!!! OK now I also want a Frisch's Big Boy, some ribs from the Montgomery Inn, some Graeter's ice cream, and one of those huge double deckers from Blue Ash Chili.....

06-18-2007, 03:16 PM

Ahh, I'll have to look for Graeters and M. Ribs. ;-) I knw there is a Graeters in Cincinnati and one where the fairly new Meijers is. ( Love That Store! )

06-18-2007, 11:55 PM
Both the Montgomery Inn and Graeters are on Montgomery Rd near Blue Ash.

The ribs at MI are the best - I think there is (was) also one on the river on one of the barges maybe and one in Anderson twshp. But I have not lived in Cinti for 8 years so who knows. Graeters in a Cinti tradition - they have amazing ice cream. You have to try it... let me know what you think when you do.

06-20-2007, 10:18 PM

Hello Everyone!

I'm working on squares for a Blanket for our son's bed.

Here they are:

Here is the LINK to it.

07-25-2007, 12:32 PM
Hi other Cincy knitters!:waving:

I'm Kae and I live in the Goshen Twsp area.

Sanibelle, the MI in Anderson burnt down a few years back. They now have the Boathouse on the river and the original one in Montgomery proper. I LOVE that place. *G*

I'm a new knitter...so new that I've not even been to a real LYS yet. LOL I'm afraid to go...think I might buy out the store!

07-26-2007, 10:44 PM

What is the LYS? We live West of Cincinnati.

08-02-2007, 09:19 PM
Hmmm, Still waiting tio find out what LYS is... ;-)

08-06-2007, 09:59 AM
O.K. NOw I KNOW what an LYS is. LOL I have been to JoAnns almost 2 times a week. I'm suddening shopping for yarn left & right. even if I'm just window shopping.

08-08-2007, 11:42 PM
I finally found another group here in Ohio. YAY!!!

We're going to Lambikins Friday. :-)

08-09-2007, 12:45 AM
I've been in Cincy for just under a year now. I live in Anderson Township. Still have yet to visit any of the LYS's (although I'm itching to check out Fiberge in Terrace Park), but then, money's been so tight that yarn is a luxury I can't afford lately!

It's funny, I started knitting to save money on sweaters, and well... that hasn't so much worked out! LOL! It's just so hard not to splurge!

08-09-2007, 12:47 PM

Welcome to Cincy! Even thought you have been ere under a year. Hope you like it. ( Hate the weather right now though.)

We have a JoAnn's here. I love it. And tomorrow we're going to Lambikims Hideaway. ( lambikins.com )

I like to buy yarn on special and just think... "SOMEDAY I'll use it ". And I usually do!

08-13-2007, 11:26 PM
I was at the Knit Wit's knitting circle again tonight. It was fun.

I was able to finish our neices Poncho! NOw I just have to sew it tiogather.

Now that we FINALLY have rain we need... I'm knitting more.

I made this scarf today.

It's folded in this picture:

09-26-2007, 08:58 PM
I'm selling that yarn on E-Bay.

09-26-2007, 11:12 PM
I have a sister in Cincinnati! Virginia Rhodes, is a principal at Aiken University High School. Bless her heart, she doesn't knit, just works... Anyone here know her?

09-28-2007, 10:16 PM

I know os Aiken. But I have not hear of your sister. I'm from west of Cincinnat.

09-28-2007, 11:05 PM
And I have not earthly idea what part of town she lives in! I go to visit her at least once a year and it is a HUGE city to me! We call her Ginger. Thanks for responding. Maybe the next time I go up, we can set up some kind of a Yarn store discovery trip and meet you. Mary

09-29-2007, 11:22 AM

Sounds like fun.

I'm trying to think of a HUGE CITY other then Cincinnati around here. Of course you also have Dayton, Cleveland & Columbus. But I don't get to those.\

10-07-2007, 02:13 PM
Come on Cincinnati people. I know your out there !

Hi, I'm Heather from the other side of the river. :D I live in Newport and work in Covington for the evil empire, I mean the IRS. My favorite LYS is Knit On! Inc. in Bellevue. :D

11-30-2007, 01:32 AM
there is a knitting group going on at sitwells in clifton!
it has fantastic eats (http://www.sitwells.net/menu/) and a truely nice atmosphere! i love it
i've never been to the group sadly, my work schedule doesnt fit,
but i would LOVE to go.

the website isnt so hot but here is the adress if you want to mapquest it for directions:
324 Ludlow Ave
Cincinnati, OH 45220

i know the micheals in eastgate has a knitting group but from what i've heard its for newbies and people wanting to help out with donating squares for Warm Up America

03-28-2008, 11:15 AM
I live in the Northgate area, but yes, Knit On is my favorite Yarn store too. I drive all the way there for a knitting lesson occasionally, I can't seem to find anything in my area.

03-28-2008, 12:09 PM
I love Sitwells! I checked out the Calendar though and I don't see the group :( Do you happen to know when they meet?

03-28-2008, 02:14 PM
I'm going to be visiting Cincinati in June for a conference. It's a conference I go to a lot and I usually spend at least one day exploring the city I visit. Looks like Knit On is the place to go. I don't have a car so I won't be going to the suburbs anyway. But while I'm over there should I get something to eat at the Newport Levee (sp?)

03-28-2008, 03:11 PM
There's not much exciting at the Levee in my opinion...mostly chain stuff, but you can eat on the patio of some places with a nice river view.
If you want a neighborhood "legend", you may want to try Pompilio's (http://pompilios.com/index.htm) or the only other Hofbrauhaus outside of Germany (http://www.hofbrauhausnewport.com/). Do you know where you're staying yet?

03-28-2008, 07:32 PM
I'm at the Ramada downtown cincinnati on 8th st. I thought it would be walking distance to the Millenium hotel downtown at 5th and Elm but people are telling me not so much. I think there is a bus. I guess I'm in a dank industrial yuky side of downtown. I think I'll be OK if I catch a bus into downtown or a cab.

06-20-2008, 10:55 PM
I'm in Cncinnati yeah! I've been to a few sessions of my conference and then I went to Knit On and I was soooooo bad. I did find one of those tubes to hold dbl points I have been looking everywhere for. NAd I got a darning sock egg thingy cuz I really should just darn my holey socks and I got some Nashua Knits in this pretty color for my blanket I'm working and I almost made it out clean when I saw this yummy verigated yarn from faza called cyprus mohair. Couldn't resist. Then I had dinner with an old friend from high school. WE graduated over 20 years ago!!! She took me to her house and we had homemade pizza and she has a daughter and a nice husband and three whippet dogs which are my favorite.

Tomorow I'm going to few more sessions then maybe I'll walk around downtown. All the other yarn stores according to the yarn store locator look too far away. Anyway, great city.

06-26-2008, 02:33 PM
It seems there are quite a few of you all in the southwest Ohio area. I'm in north Dayton. It's great to know there are some other locals here! :)

07-15-2008, 09:32 PM
If there is anyone here in Cincinnati who would like to drop by & knit in the hospital waiting room with me for an hour or so occasionally that would be great. If not I understand - I don't like hanging out in hospitals either.

07-15-2008, 10:41 PM
Femmy, does it ever seem to you that those of us in Oregon are LYS deprived? Thank God for the internet.

You've made quite a haul there :yay:

07-16-2008, 12:19 AM
I think that it would be so cool if we could get a group of people together once a week or month to knit together and just talk. I am a new knitter but I would love talking with some people while I try and knit. I live in the Cincinnati Area near UC campus.

Just let me know if other people are interested in meeting and knitting together. I think that weekends would work better.

07-21-2008, 03:49 PM
I just found this site and thought I'd say :waving: to everyone. We moved to OH from SoCal last year. My creative juices need an outlet and I found some cute patterns for my 6 month old. :) I thought I'd try them, and was looking for a knitting shop in the area when I stumbled upon this site.

07-22-2008, 06:52 PM
You know if I was closer I would come join you and finish off those darn socks with you and Ben. LOL I'm going home to visit for Turkey day. should be a fun trip.

I grew up in Springfield,Oh and lived south of I-70 out in the county.

I am recently self-taught also. Have made several scarfs and one dish cloth and working on an all-in-one neck scarf. Hope you find more time to knit.

05-11-2010, 09:44 PM
Have you had any luck with getting people together?
