My swappee should be getting her goodies soon...can't wait to see if she likes them!

:woot:

I got a cute e-card from my Swappee saying my package went out today.

Now to stalk the mail man all week. Not that I don't do that already. :teehee:

Everyones packages look great. I didn't even think to put in candy. Will do next time.

I think we all spend a little time stalking the mailman. I got the mail today, he was there filling all the other boxes and asked if he brought me anything good. I said no, all I got was bills and that I am looking for a yarn order(things for me and extra's for the 2nd box), I want yarn, not bills

Snowbear-- I'm sure your yarn swap partner understands and  hope they figure out whats up... doctors and tests can be utterly frustrating

These swaps are wonderful, you get a chance to learn about other knitters, their talents, and what kinds of yarn they like, it opens up a whole new world of yarns that you normally maybe won't have looked at.

I enjoy chatting with both my swappee and my swapper. And I enjoy the shopping part, and I probably go over board, but I can't help it, I buy for him/her and I buy for myself, it is only fair.

It is fun doing the swaps, I agree it is up lifting esp if you are having a bad day or week. I have started a project for my second package, and I think it will be ok.

And I am still waiting quietly for my first package , not really, but I have it under control. Wait, I think I hear the mailman......nope can't be, it is Sunday. It will be here Monday, I just know it. And I have off three days next week to play with all the stuff I get. (Is that positive or what!)

You guys are a great bunch. And everyone has gotten such nice stuff. Can't wait til we do this again.

What sucks is here in the States there's no mail on Wed. So the waiting gets longer. :tap:

WEDNESDAY? Why on earth Wednesday? Why not... Saturday or Sunday? Just... why? Why? Seriously!

It's just this coming Wednesday. It's the 4th of July. Normally there is no mail on Sundays.

wewantmore
07-01-2007, 10:44 AM
Just this Wed. b/c of 4th of July. That makes Thurs run longer so the waiting is longer there too. My guy normally comes about 1ish, but will most likely be here Thurs around 4pm.

redwitch
07-01-2007, 10:28 PM
I see... THIS Wednesday... won't you all be too busy waving flags and barbecuing with family to play with your wool? That's what Americans do on July 4 right?
You don't want to get your wool on a barbecue day if so... too much risk of that sauce getting near the wool.

BostonBecca
07-01-2007, 11:15 PM
MMMM barbecue.....

I will eat some of that, but I'll also be studying for the bar and PO'ed because my Knitpicks order won't come that day because the mail doesn't come that day.

People do wave flags, but we don't have a flag.

I'll most likely spend a good portion of the day studying for the bar exam. Fun times.

I'll also knit.

We sometimes go to our local small-town Fourth of July Parade. They have simple floats, with local businesses, youth sports teams, cheerleaders, fire trucks, police cars, and beauty queens. Each float has people throwing candy to the crowd, so the kids go crazy trying to catch it.

They also have other events at the local elementary school, but we never go to that.

Sometimes, we sleep too late, and miss everything. :teehee:

When my kids were little, I used to buy some ground fireworks, and all the kids in the neighborhood would come to watch them. We'd hand out sparklers and sit around talking.

When I was a teenager, and in my 20's and 30's, we would sometimes go to see fireworks in uptown Charlotte or somewhere else.

About 4 years ago, we went to see the Charlotte Symphony perform with fireworks. That was cool. A couple years ago, we went to see the Charlotte Knights baseball team play, with fireworks afterward. Those were the best fireworks by far in the Charlotte area.

But now that our kids are grown, we just stay home and watch fireworks on TV.

they were great in uptown shot from Bank of America building too!!
before that from Cameron Brown building..
our little town has a parage down the highway of tractors, kids etc.. & fireworks from out park

I got an email from my dahling swapper! She said the package should be here yesterday. Unfortunately, last week some idiot vandals broke into the mailboxes at my folk's place and so all the mail is being held at the post office! :waah:

Sandy we normally go to the Knights Game for the 4th. But most likely won't this year. I'm just too big and hot to be out in this heat.

We bought some small fireworks. (sparklers, smoke bombs, worms)

Oh that yarn looks yummy. (maybe even with some BBQ sauce on the side.) :teehee:

Working on pal's 2nd box, afraid to see what it will cost to ship, lol

The doctor called yesterday and DD's mri came back normal , so now she will have to have an EMG at the end of the month, since we still dont know why she has muscle weakness and uneven shoulders.
So I am trying to stay calm and not worry to much, does not work some days, lol

Everyone is getting such nice stuff!! I love my package and am often fondling my yarn!

I love seeing all this yarn with lots of color in, I hadn't seen much of it before, but it's turning me into quite a fan.

I don't know about anyone else but the chocolate in my parcel didn't last very long! :teehee:

I've got a few items for the 2nd package, but am still waiting on the yarn I ordered! It's making me very impatient! What are people doing for the 2nd package? I wasn't sure if I should knit an item or just knitted related items. The thing I'm going to knit is only small so I want to put a little something extra in it. What's the 2nd package deadline BTW, I might need to have a back up knitted item in case I can't get the yarn in time.

I was hoping the SeaSilk would be on sale too! I read the email quickly when I got it, and got my hopes all up.:???: There's some nice stuff there, but I can't decide how to justify it to myself ... but I guess if you subtract the shipping cost (since you only get the free shipping if you order the seasilk) from the cost of the seasilk, it is sort of like being on sale .

Pretty pretty yarns everyone - keep posting those pictures!!

I was informed that my package was sent out last Friday... :tap:

I have my Fed Ex (all three methods) and UPS delivery gal/guy trained very well. If they have a package for me, they just bring it by my work, it's the same route as my house. If they were to deliver to my house it takes them about 40-50 minutes round trip. So it's always funny to see them jump up (not really) with glee when they don't have to drive all that way to deliver a package.

Hi all,

I've been lurking but not posting on this thread. But I got my yarn in the mail yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will post pictures tonight. I have to tell you I love my swapper!!!!!!! OMgoodness, she sent me the most lucious bamboo yarn, wonderful teas, candy, and a skein of yarn for my boyfriend's son so he can practice "yarning"!!!

Little Jr. was with me when I opened the package, and he was so excited. He is planning on making a "rug" with the yarn he got. He was so happy, the minute his daddy got home, he ran up with the yarn (and the candy), saying "look what we got in the mail!!! I'm gonna get sticks and yarn! I'm gonna make you a rug daddy!"

Can't wait to show you all the pictures. Wish you could feel the bamboo yarn, WOW it's soooooo soft and lovely.

Thank you yarn fairy!

I LOVE LOVE everyone's goodies! What wonderful surprises we are all getting!! We all have such wonderful pals!!! :cheering::cheering:

Okay, I need help from ya'll, please! Part of my pal's 2nd package is the Ribs and Lace Tank from Spring Interweave Knits, you can see it here (http://www.interweaveknits.com/backissues/SP_07.asp), it's the 2nd picture, black top. Okay, here's where I need your help....I'm knitting the straps and the pattern states "knit straps for 11 inches and try it on and make adjustments if necessary" Well, it's obvious I can't do that! So, do you think it's better if I 1. knit the straps (9 St sts each strap) 11 in. and didn't graft them to the back so that you could try it own to make sure the length was right and then graft them yourself OR 2. do you think I should go ahead and graft them and not weave the ends in on the straps so that they can be easily undone if the length isn't right? Then if the length is right all you have to do is weave in a couple of ends. OR 3. I knit the straps 11 inches as stated in the pattern, graft and weave in the ends and send it on?! I opt for #2 idea, but I would LOVE to know what you think!

PLEASE....EVERYBODY...I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!! Thanks:blooby:

kristinw
07-06-2007, 08:21 PM
Hmmm, I vote for #2 also. I know if I was knitting it, I would hate to send it incomplete, ya know? But you never know - if you graft them, it just may fit. And if it can be easily fixed if it doesn't, then that would be perfect.

i say #2. at least most of the work is done if it fits, and if it doesn't, it means you're swappee doesn't have to go digging the ends out. perfect!

i haven't heard from my swappee lately...i think i'll shoot them an email to see how their fourth was (and maybe get some hint of what i'm getting and when i can expect package #2! :teehee: )

i'm nearly done with my swapper's project. i think i have 8 more rows, then i get to assemble...i have one more piece to the puzzle before i can finish it all up. i'm hoping to pick those up tomorrow. maybe i'll see if i can find some other cute little goodies while i'm at it!

It's pretty, too.....if only I were younger and smaller I'd have to have one!!!! Ahhhh, I am working on the "smaller", but can't do anything about the younger, LOL!!!
I believe I'm enjoying Part 2 more than Part 1! I was NOT going to knit, I intended to get my pal a LOT of knitting accessories, books, maybe, all sorts of fun things, but all of a sudden I dedided to knit and it's really been fun, a nice diversion from my 27 mile long "things I need to knit" list!

I hope that you nine get your packages soon!

P.S. I definately think I know who my swapper is since I got my package. The tatting gave it away. Unless there is some really tricky person who sent someone else pictures of their tatting who is also from the UK and asked them to post it. That would be a really elaborate method to hide your identity.

P.P.S. I am very lucky to have the tatter? as my swapper.

Is that even the correct word? Tatter? We use a very similar word here to refer to potatoes. I would hate for my swapper to think I am calling her a potato.

I can't believe what everyone is getting! Everything is BEAUTIFUL!! I have to say it, we have a bunch of great swappers!!

I'm still working on Part 2, I've knit 2 Mason Dixon Ballband cloths (http://www.canadianliving.com/canadianLiving/client/en/Crafts/DetailNews.asp?idNews=236610&idsm=307) for her kitchen and 2 for her bath. Last night I finished the Ribs and Lace Tank (http://www.interweaveknits.com/backissues/SP_07.asp) and did as we agreed, grafted the straps to the back, but didn't weave in the ends in case she needs to adjust the straps, the grafting can be easily undone and I'll send extra yarn in case they need to be longer. And tonight I cast on for the Lacy Beverage Bag (http://www.interweaveknits.com/default.asp) (scroll down) that the girl is carrying with the Lacy Yoga Bag, but I changed to the st pattern of the yoga bag. I'm doing it in the same yarn as the tank, Knit Picks Main Line. This is the 1st time I've knit with this yarn and I'm loving it! I'll have pics as soon as I block the tank!

Remember now, I'm home all the time and have a good deal of time to knit! Also, our deadline isn't until Aug 1, no need to hurry, at least I hope not, or I'm in trouble, LOL!!

Wow, Becka! That's a lot!! I need to get busy!!!! It's really not that much, like I said, I have a LOT of time to knit!

Hmmm becka ... I wonder who your pal could be? Well, I'm gonna tease her until I send her package! I'm gonna have photos of everything before I ship it right here, too....then I won't ship it for a while, or, maybe I'll ship it before I post the photos, who knows  only me and I'm not telling!!! Yes, I've been tormenting and teasing my pal on pretty much a daily basis, then sometimes just a few days a week, LOL, I'm mean, LOL:shrug: who knew??!!!

I think I have to go and get myself some of that Lorna's Laces sock yarn, I have just loved all the different ones posted here.

So much great yarn!

I have a couple of small things I have knitted for my pal, and then a few things I have found that I just know she needs, I have given her a couple of hints to who I am , not sure if she "knows" though.

i am knitting a thing to be felted by my swappee, and including a book i think she will like as well as some little goodies i made for her too!

Oh dear, I hope your not my secret swapper I'm scared of felting! A book! I never thought of that, mmmmm.

I've got a couple of items to put in the next box, but the yarn I need STILL hasn't arrived yet. I might have to fall back on something else, or send the box a week late. What would you guys do? I would like to knit the item I had in mind, I'd have to have a good hunt for something else to make.

I have no idea who my lovely swapper is. I haven't gone looking, the only clue I was given was she's in the US! That narrows it down to all of you bar 1!

I'm just going to sign a card, that way she'll find out when she gets the second parcel.

BostonBecca
07-10-2007, 10:59 AM
If you think it is something your swapper really wants or will enjoy a lot, I would just send the box a little late. I am excited to get my second box, but I had to wait a little while because I had to get the box shipped to my parents house and then have them bring it to me. It was hard waiting but so worth it! I think I would rather wait for something my swapper had taken so much time and effort in choosing for me.

I'm making my person that lace kerchief I posted as well as the felted bowl. I might have some yarn left over from the bowl in which case I might make a little felted bag for the stitch markers I made for her.

I think I might inscribe the book I got for my swappee to reveal myself. Or I might put a card on top of all the goodies telling them to open one first and put a clue as to the goodie to open next with a clue in the next one, etc. and have the last one be the one I have my name in? I would probably put clues as to my identity as well in all the packages, getting more and more obvious as they go, so the person might be able to guess as well. I already have a card for my person to include in the package so that would be either the first or the last.

I definitely have a MUCH bigger wish list now than before everyone starting posting pictures! Lorna's Laces (which I had been wanting to try anyway) and that Twisted Sisters! So pretty!

I'm about to block the shawl for my pal - I'll try posting pictures later. I can't wait to see what everyone else is working on!

 Snowbear! It's so hard waiting! However, I was reading Stumbling on Happiness by a psychologist (his name escapes me right now), and his finding was that overall, while we may think otherwise, we are actually happier when we are anticipating something, rather than actually experiencing it. Maybe this is a way to look at your waiting. (He might not have done any of his studies with yarn though - that might be altogether different! :teehee:)

It's a feather and fan shawl in berroco denim silk - it looks sort of shiny in these pics, but it's not - it's more rough silk that got fairly soft in blocking. It's a little uneven at the midpoint in the back. I loved doing it, but is this something someone would want?

BostonBecca
07-15-2007, 04:42 PM
I think I overspent by a fair amount. I did buy something and was unsure whether or not I should keep it. I am pretty substantially over and I bought this thinking I would only send it if I was under or couldn't find something good to make.

Also, I am going to have a fair amount of yarn left over from something I am making. Would it be ok to send the extra yarn with the band and the knitted item to my swappee? It will be under a ball.

I think it would be great to send along the extra yarn.. That way if anything happens she'll have some to repair.

You're a very considerate swapper!

I finished my first project for my swappee. It's a little felted bowl and was my first time at felting. It took a long time (front load washer-about 3 hours) but it finally felted down to the size and thickness I wanted. No pictures because I want the person to be surprised at what it looks like, but I am so happy it turned out so well! Whew.

I'm really sorry swapper but your box is going to be a week late. It's a combination, of getting yarn in time, being poorly at the moment and money. I promise you I'll make it worth the wait. (I know you know who you are I just don't want to say, until everyone has reveled themselves)

golly i haven't been here for a while. DH's got time off and this whole month we've been doing tons of stuff with the kids. I've got a few little things here and there for my pals 2nd box I even decided to knit her something i hope she likes it. The only other things i can think of putting into the box are non knitting things like a cute notebook, pretty pens, smells good stuff, and sweet treats:teehee:.

Everyone's got such lovely things and now people are starting to get their 2nd box of goodies and the big REVEAL!!!!!!!!! YAY:woot:

This was such a fun swap!!!!:waving:

The shawl looks great , threesmom, I am sure your swapper will love it.

I am working on my 2nd box, got lots of goodies, almost finished with the scarf I am knitting. Need to get a couple of more goodies and then I will send it off.

Can you believe it is July 16th already ?

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate it!

BostonBecca - I am so glad you posted how long it took you to felt! I always think I'm doing something wrong because it has taken me FOREVER the two times I have done it.

I went WAY over budget on box 2, too - I couldn't help myself!

I can't wait to see what everyone is sending - I'm always so in awe of the talent here - I sometimes even hate to look at the FO pages!! But its always inspiration!

Hey Snowbear, if you don't get a box please let us know. I know that I would want to help make up some stuff for you, stitch markers, etc. I think we could all pull together and have you covered with lots of yummy little tidbits from all over the place.
