Here's the state of the aran sweater. I finished the front and it's posing with it's back and the start of the first sleeve. Included is the progress of the first sleeve since that picture was taken:

Thanks! I don't know why, but I just love to knit and wear arans. I like to knit fair isles, but don't really like to wear them that much, they just aren't my thing. Needless to say, you'll be seeing lots more arans from me in the future. Thanks, everyone for your compliments!

Okay, here's where I am. I've finished the front, back, and the first sleeve. I actually finished the sleeve 3 days ago, it's been blocking. I estimate about another 4 days of knitting. I'm gonna miss this when it's done, but I'll love to wear it. Not looking forward to the seaming, though.

Conti! I like the shoulder detailing! Very nice! Thanks for posting the photos. I knit lots of celtic, aran and viking knits. My fav designer is Elsebeth Lavold of Sweden. HERE (http://www.ingenkonst.se/) is her website.

She is a very creative designer. Very wearable garments. Fun to knit. Very complex cabling...and some very simplistic patterns, too. I have collected all of her books. I buy 'em sight unseen.

Right now I am knitting a KHAKI CABLES cardigan. Am loving it! Started a KAL...haven't gotten any knitting partners yet. Timing isn't right. Lots of knitters are trying to get summer tops done.

Anyway, I will check back later in the week...and see your Aran Sweater when it is all put together! :-)

I love cables so seeing your work is so exciting! Wonderfully controlled stitches. :notworthy:

BTW - is what the sweater's laying on in your latest pics evidence of your work?? What is that? It's GORGEOUS!!

I want that sweater!!!

I had an aran sweater that I wore to death. I think I had it about 12 years before I had to admit that it was completely worn out.

I really miss that sweater, and hope that I can someday knit a new beautiful one like the one you are knitting!

Yessss! It's finally done! I decided it's going to be either for my aunt or my mother, because the cable pattern looks to femenine, and plus the neck is just not my style.

Anyway, here it is ;)

Specifics:

Yarn- Knit Picks Wool of the Andes, colorway Cloud
Needles- Knit Picks Options, 4.5 mm.
Date Completed- July 19th.

What do you think?

What do you think?

I don't think the cable pattern is too feminine. Cables are generic.
It is the neckline that makes you feel that the sweater would be most appropriate for a woman.

But, if you want to wear it yourself, do this: add a 2x2 ribbed band along the neck edge (ribbing that matches the cuffs and bottom edge) ...and wear a man's button-up shirt with it. If you wore blue jeans and a light denim chambray shirt with it...that would present a GREAT LOOK! Nothing feminine about that image whatsoever!!! If you wore black denim jeans, wear a dark grey chambray shirt with it! You could add a tie for a casual dressy look. Like with the black denims and grey chambray shirt: add a solid black or charcoal tie. :eyebrow:

Braden
06-21-2007, 04:27 PM
Thanks, I'll do that. It was the neckline when I tried it on that made it look to femenine.

Hey, doesn't the aran go good (for a lady, of course) with the lace scarf I knit?
