This pattern is one of the surprises from the most recent knitty. The link can be found here (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/PATTleaf.html) . You might remember my Green Gable saga (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/showthread.php?t=58634) with the revenge of the dye lots a few weeks back. This is what I started making instead. It has gone really fast, despite being stockinette NOT in the round - wow, I am sure not used to all that purling! I've alternated dye lots every couple of inches, which you can't really see all that well in the pictures but it's actually a really nice subtle stripe effect. I am SO happy with how the picot hem came out too, I had my doubts but I sewed it one stitch at a time (170 stitches, again...), it took me a good 45 minutes or so, but it was so worth it.

Next, I've started on the i-cord for the applied i-cord tie/neckband, then I'll go back and do the sleeves and weave in ends and it will be done. It is a VERY straight forward, easy to follow pattern.

It looks great! I can't see the stripes from the different dye lots at all! That picot edging is stunning! :thud:

That looks great! You can't even tell that you used two different dye lots. I have started this also except on a smaller gauge, and I find it to be easy as well.

Ohhh, nice! I really want to make one of these, but I'm afraid of the hem. Are you going to put the leaves on the bottom of the ties?

Cate, the hem was SO easy. I'd never done anything like it before so I was nervous too, but all it is is a yo, K2tog row, followed by a couple more inches of straight stockinette which is then bound off. You fold the hem right at the eyelet row, then with your yarn tail (I left a LONG tail and it wasn't long enough) in a tapestry needle, you start inserting it through the first bound off stitch, then through a purl bump on the back of your work, then through the second bound off stitch and the next purl bump on the same row, etc. It took a while and was a bit tedious but it came out great.

And no, I'm not going to do the leaves at the bottom of the ties. I made one leaf and it was much bigger than I thought it would be plus I just didn't like how it looked. So I'm just doing plain i-cord and I may buy some kind of beads or something to sew to the bottoms of the ties.

I'll try to add a picture of me wearing it later, but for now, here it is!!! :happydance:

I made the sleeves shorter than the pattern says, and I did the sleeves in the round instead of flat - I don't know why they weren't written in the round in the first place.

I'm not sure about the i-cord tie, it seems so bulky when it's tied so I'm considering ripping the i-cord tie parts back and just leaving the i-cord neck edging, and using some kind of ribbon as a tie instead. We'll see!

Gorgeous! I love the stripes, too. :cheering:

I was thinking about leaving off the ties and doing a single button for mine...this is assuming I ever pick some yarn and get started. :teehee:
