View Full Version : Double pointed needles
hi! I'm currently using double pointed needles for the first time....the pattern calls for "fasten off" then I have to start a new color. How do I "fasten off"? Is it the same as binding off? I am making a baby hat that has flower petals on the top. The dpn are used for the hat part in one color, which I have completed. Now, it is telling me to fasten off and attach the new color. How do I do that??? Please be explicit and simple in the explanation....I'm getting old and my mind isn't what it use to be...LOL...:?? Thank you! Linda

Well, what your doing is basically a color join. You could probably do any you prefer, and it wouldn't make a difference. Amy has videos in the basic techniques 'more' section. I hope I could help.

Nah, you don't want to bind off. Contiknitter's right--you just want to join a new color somehow. I usually cut the old-color yarn, leaving a tail several inches long. Then I tie a slipknot with the new color around the tail of the old color. As was said before, though, you can find several joining options here (http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/misc.php).
