I've got my knit on, and feel the urge to start knitting for christmas/winter. Anyone willing to share their favorite mitten pattern?
Thanks,
Julie

I like using a basic mitten pattern--I'm sure there are some at www.knittingpatterncentral.com . Then I add cables or whatever embellishments I want.
I've also done the wrist band in a pattern to match a scarf--scrunchable, cable, etc., and then picked up and knit for the hand. It makes a nice matching set.

I made a few from the book Felted Knits (http://www.amazon.com/Felted-Knits-Beverly-Galeskas/dp/1931499330)...they are so warm when they are felted!!

Are there fingers in mittens, or not? I am a bit confused.

In American (and the UK too I believe), a mitten has a thumb and one big pouch for all the fingers. A glove has each finger knitted separately.
This is a mitten (http://www.nancysknitknacks.com/Fair-Isle-Mitten-Side-1-72-.jpg), and this is a glove (http://www.safetycenter.navy.mil/media/gallery/photos/mech/images/glove.jpg).
I haven't made them, but this pattern from Magknits (http://magknits.com/Feb07/patterns/peekaboo.htm)looks cool - it's a glove with a slit so you can use your fingers.

I made the Magknits ones for my sister and she wondered why there was a hole in them!:rofling: I think it's a great idea. I'm going to make myself a pair for this winter.
