I did make these just to see if I could and they were very easy.

Jan,
Thank you for the links  the seamless booties are so cute. I really would like to make socks, they seem to stay on those tiny feet better.

Someone on another group asked this same question. I put knit baby sock pattern in Yahoo and found probably a dozen different baby patterns and almost as many toddler patterns.

I'm making baby socks right now for six month pictures. CO 36 using fingering weight, did ribbing and stripes for 18 rows, did heel flap, etc., foot was 3 inches long and the toe was about an inch. Made the sock 4 inches for a 4.5 inch foot. Pics on my blog.

For a new born I'd probably CO 32, rib the entire leg for about 15-20 rows, divide for heel, etc., and make the foot about 2.5 - 2.75 inches. This (http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/size-chart.html#foot) might help!:teehee:

I googled for patterns and came up with a couple. I found these:

Do you think they would be ok for boy or girl? :flirt:

Do you think they would be ok for boy or girl?:knitting: Yes, I think they would be fine for an infant of either sex. Especially in white or a neutral color like green or yellow. However, lots of men act really weird about anything they think is girlish on their infant sons. Go figure. So, If I didn't know that dad very well, I'd say these (http://www.knitlist.com/99gift/basic-baby-socks.htm) or these (http://www.ptyarn.com/wiggles.html) or maybe these (http://www.geocities.com/blossomknitwear/superquickbabysocks) would make picky dads feel better....

You might want to take a look at this site: http://www.p2designs.com/Links-CharityPatterns.htm
This site has a variety of patterns (from adults to babies) and encourages knitters and or crocheters to donate items made from the patterns to local charities.

My favorite pattern is from my LYS www.fancyimageyarn.com (http://www.fancyimageyarn.com) I believe she has kits to make baby socks.
