I watched an episode of Uncommon Threads on DIYnet today and they made a purse using freeform crochet. While I may try it, I am more interested in the handles they used!

I have searched the net and cannot find anything like they used in the US, and don't want to spend that much too!
see what I am talking about here:

Some of the best purse handles I have found were on existing purses at thrift stores. I just cut off the handles and use them on my knitting projects. The purses usually only cost a few bucks.

you might be able to get a similar look with a few tools: the plastic rounded handles are readily available in the us. you can get similar types of clasps at sewing stores (for suspenders, dress clips, etc) then you can use some wire, some pliers etc- detatch the rings that usually come with the plastic handles, and attach a new wire with the clasps.

This is where I always go for my purse handles:

I am lucky since I live close to NYC I can go into the city and get them in person. But they have a great website too so you can order online.

Hope this helps.

I actually went to this store when I was in New York to see the Martha Stewart show. I could go NUTS in there! I didn't buy alot as I didn't want to carry a bunch of stuff around! But I did get some great buttons. Pricey, but beautiful!

And I didn't see the handles that I am looking for there. The part that connects to your knitted purse has a tooth like crip!
