This set is so freaking cute I can't even stand it! I've never made baby things before...but this makes me just wanna keep going and going.

Without further ado, this is the "Baby Uggs" and "Suede" baby hat from Knitty Gritty. (My uncle is expecting a female bundle of joy in August...well, his wife is. Oh yeah! And they live in Anchorage and babies so it won't be too hot for a fluffy hat)

Sans flash, truer colors:

With soda can for "scale"

Oh VERY cute.

I love the paper towel tube holding the hat up. :teehee::teehee:

Heheh, there's an upside down measuring cup balanced on top to make it "head-shaped" :teehee:

Thanks everyone!

Oh my goodness! Those are ADORABLE!:heart::heart:

I will have to make some of them.

What yarn did you use?

06-07-2007, 09:02 AM
Berroco faux Suede, and the fluffy stuff is some random yarn at the LYS....Peter Pan or something like that? The pattern suggests Berroco "Plush" but LYS didn't have it.

06-07-2007, 09:13 AM
I just love that pattern- the baby will be just irresistible in those- and warm! I like your color choices too

OMG....those are soooo adorable and how fitting that they live in Alaska! Great job! :cheering:

06-07-2007, 09:19 PM
I want to make this set for some friends who are expecting. Can you tell me how much of the suede yarn it took for the hat and booties?

06-07-2007, 11:58 PM
They were both SO easy! Here's the pattern: linky (http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_knitting/article/0,2025,DIY_14141_3148516,00.html) (the hat is linked at the bottom of the page) The hardest part was seaming...and picking fluffy shedded yarn off myself :teehee:

I had one ball of each color of the suede yarn and one ball of fluffy yarn. There is tons of fluffy yarn left. The two balls of suede was enough to make the hat and 3 booties (one for practice). I included the stripes cuz I didn't think I'd have enough pink left for the whole hat.

Here's what I've got for leftovers:

And here's a side view of the earflaps:

Aren't they just the cutest - you did a great job on yours. I knitted up a set of these too for my SIL and have started on some for my little one who's due in a few months. I just adore this pattern.

Thank you! So cute. :)

REALLY FREAKING CUTE!!!!!!!!!!:cheering:

08-05-2007, 11:59 AM
:cheering:I'm so happy to see these booties made up--they & hat are adorable. I just bought the materials yesterday and swatched the suede last night. Am surprised to find that with this yarn I'm knitting looser than my usual tightness, having to go down a needle size instead of up to get guage. Has anyone else noticed this?

Also need an opinion: the pattern says these are for girls, but they look to me like they could be unisex if made from a neutral color like the rawhide color I bought. Not that the baby fashion police are going to be watching, but what do y'all think?

BTW, my LYS was out of the "Plush" yarn but said that a good substitute for the fluffy trim is Plymouth Baby Rimini.

Thanks for posting the photos!

Aren't baby things addictive? They are so tiny and cute you just want to make more.

That seems so perfect for a new little Alaskan baby.

I don't know why they have to be just for girls. I vote that that they are great for little boys too. :woot:

:inlove: Beautiful!

I must make this set! for my SO's second grandbaby due this month, whose home is in Denver. I don't remember ever seeing the hat. Thanks!

08-06-2007, 12:29 PM
I, too, am making the booties for a Colorado baby! A grand-nephew to be born in Boulder any day now. Maybe they'll run into each other.

08-06-2007, 01:06 PM
I DEFINITELY think they can be for a boy! Go for it!
I loved making this whole set...super cute, easy and FAST! Mine are for a girl, but I think the neutral colors would definitely make a good set for a boy.
