View Full Version : Untwisting yarn?

I've been making a bag with some handspun (not by me) cotton. It was pretty cool, because it had all these little spiral twists from how it was spun. I had wound it up on a ball winder so it wouldn't get tangled.

The problem is, the longer I knit with it, the "fatter" it got, with less twists, until it split in two and pulled apart! :zombie:

What can I do to prevent this from happening with the other skein?

I've had this happen with normal wools: I think that as it passed through my fingers, the pressure kind of straightend it out/untwisted it. I just make sure to twist it the other way every now and then and hold on to the twisted part to make sure it gets knitted in before it can untwist. Or you could hold up the knitting or the ball and spin whichever one is dangling the correct way to twist it again.
