Lion Brand Bunny Blanket Buddy (http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/50722.html)
Isn't it cute? I ran out to Joann's and got the yarn for it yesterday and I'm over half done already. Velvetspun is a fairly nasty yarn but I wanted it to look just like the photo. It has some YO's in it that show up more if you don't use a fluffy/bulky yarn so I went for the nasty velvetspun btu I think it'll be worth it once I am done!

Anyone want to knit this with me? It's REALLY quick and could easily use up extra stash! Knit it in something washable tho. I am already dreaming of a Rowan Calmer version, or even Plymouth OH MY! I think would be REALLy perfect for it!

that is so adorable!
Do you have a baby in mind for this gift, or is it just an impulse knit? I seem to have a stash of gifts all knit up, but no babies.
I would totally knit this up with you, if ONLY I had the yarn in my stash...sigh.

I might have to try this one....since it says no gauge ...I think I'll make it with Lionbrand Suede. I think I have a couple balls of that somewhere. Won't be able to start this right now but will soon.

I've used baby homespun and had them come out great. Also, if you want it smaller, use thinner yarn and smaller needles. A friend of mine did it with two strands of yarn- one cotton and one lion brand microspun- and it came out amazingly soft and about 12" tall...

Hi Pixie -
well, I made it up to the head. DS is having a sleepover at his aunt's tonight (gotta love summer) so I actually had a little interrupted time... YAY! It is going by quickly. How big is yours? I haven't measured yet, but mine seems so tiny.
When are you due? Do you know if you're having a boy or girl?

06-17-2007, 11:32 AM
Yeah I'm stil at the head, I'm about to go on a 6 hour flight so I might take it with me to finish it up! Mine seems pretty big, but that velvetspun is so huge. I am having a girl in late august or early september. I'm also going to knit some cute pink unicorn washcloths for the diaper bag heh. I am thinking I would like to knit this again in different yarn that would make it a bit smaller, it seems a bit bulky for a newborn but maybe thats just me! I hope the head comes out cute tho! Goodluck with yours!

Hi guys,
I just finished an "adapted version" of one of these that has garter stitch edges but is otherwise all st st - I posted the pics on the What'cha Knitting forum - click here to see: http://knittinghelp.com/knitting/forum/showpost.php?p=881601&postcount=1
It was knit with double strands of Lion Brand Microspun and is SO soft...Thought you all might like to see it done up in a "variation" from the pattern...
Have fun - it is an ADORABLE blankie/woobie/thingy!! and congrats to all you Mom's to be!!!

Thanks Walmin22
For all of you who have finished this, may I ask how you did the head? I got lost in the instructions there for "knitting 2 at once" and ended up just joining and knitting the head in the round - but I would like to understand what I was supposed to do for future reference-TIA. Chris

I working on the head now. To K2T you need to put your needle through 2 stitches while doing a knit stitch. There is a video on this site you can watch.

Thanks for replying Walminn22-it wasn't the K2Tog that confused me, but knitting both pieces of the head separately but at the same time...so that you had two "flaps" to fill with the stuffing...I know I probably missed something obvious, but just got frustrated and ended up joining the stitches and knitting in the round. However, I would like to know the "right way" to have done it for future reference :-) Chris

I thought that, since I have a bunch of black chenille, I would try to make this but, instead of a bunny, it's going to be a black cat with yellow eyes.
Any idea how I would alter the ears on this pattern? Thanks.

such a cute idea for the kitty!
you could probably figure out how to make them by looking at this pattern (http://www.kittyville.com/knit/kitty_hat.html)
you might need to make then just a little smaller then the hat pattern, though.

I finished one of these but the head turned out wrong :( I ended up with an extra stitch. The head consists of rows of purl, slip across ending in a slip (28 stitches if I remember correctly) so when I turned and started the next row I mistook my yarn for another loop and ended up with 29 stitches. I didn't realize my error until I finished the head and tried to stuff it. So my bunny ended up with a flat head. My 9 year old loves it but it was originally for a friend who is pregnant.
Cute pattern, I will give it another try once I finish the baby sweater and blanket I have started.
FYI: I used antique white chenille that I had on hand instead of the velvet.

OK, so I just did the k2 together all the way across w/my size 8's. Now I'm not sure where to go with this because I want to make this a kitty cat and don't want the long ears. I thought maybe I would just do the head and then, at the end, just pick up some stitches to do the ears. However, I'm not sure how to complete the head without the ears. Any ideas? For some reason, I'm just not "seeing how the head is going to come together.
Thanks.

So if you are at the K2tog across row-14 sts that would mean you are at Row 62 and here you are still shaping the head. I would continue on as the pattern says until you reach the Shape Ears portion. Row 1 says P3tog, return st to left needle, cast on 17 sts......
I would think for a kitty you would just cast on fewer stitches and adjust the pattern accordingly. I am no expert and I shy away from altering patterns other than simple adjustments.
I am going to attempt to insert a picture of my bunny "mess up". Like I had posted earlier, I messed up in the shaping of the head so that it could not be stuffed. Hopefully this picture will give you an idea of how the head "comes together".

Alright, so now I'm doing the P1, Sl1. So tell me again HOW this ends up coming out so it can be stuffed? I keep looking at this pattern and it's escaping me.
Gosh, I feel so stupid that I can't "see" this!:??
ladyroto
07-13-2007, 11:54 AM
I think it is because you alternate the slip and purl and not slip the slips and purl the purls, You start each row with a Purl and end the rows with a slip. I felt the same way........once I realized my mistake I corrected it and finished according to pattern and only the very top is able to be stuffed. I can slip my finger (only 1 fingers width) into the head. Just make sure you follow the pattern and not make the same mistake I did. See, not only did I inadvertantly add another stitch but my slipped stitches, after a few rows, were so tight that I had to purl all the way across (mistake, I know) just to give the stitches some slack. I had already broken a stitch earlier in the body section and I didn't want to repeat.
I bought another skein of Chenille and I plan on tackling this project again. It is a cute bunny plus I don't give up that easily!
FYI: The reason my slipped stitches were too tight is because I was slipping the same slipped stitches over and over.

I don't know if it would be considered double knitting. Apparently the alternating purl/slip method makes a pocket. So I guess in a way it could be considered knitting the front and back at the same time.

Christl8 your layette set and bunny turned out very pretty. You did a great job. Can you tell us where you got the pattern or is there a link on line?
These were the patterns (although I ended up knitting all but the booties in 2 strands of the LionBrand Microspun):
Sweater: http://www.minidata.co.nz/major/freepatt/patt01.htm (http://www.minidata.co.nz/major/freepatt/patt01.htm)
The hat was based loosely off of this http://www.knitwits-heaven.com/soft_...k_baby_hat.htm (http://www.knitwits-heaven.com/soft_and_thick_baby_hat.htm) but the "brim" pattern was adjusted to match the sweater
Booties: http://tangleknits.blogspot.com/ (http://tangleknits.blogspot.com/) (scroll down about 1/2 way). Again, the pattern stitch at the top of the booties was changed to match the sweater
Woobie: http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/...tml?noImages=0 (http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/50722.html?noImages=0) (again, the pattern was adjusted from all garter to some garter edging with the rest in stockinette so that it matched the sweater)
As I said earlier I couldn't figure out the head on the bunny so just ended up joining the stitches and knitting it in the round. I was a little nervous that a baby could pick the stuffing out through the stockinette so I stuffed an old knee high with the fiber fill and then stuffed that into the knitting... I think I understand how I SHOULD have made the head now from reading these posts - I'm going to have to cast on some stitches and try it to see if I do have it right

I saw all of y'all talking about this, and i decided to make one today. so, i started around 2 pm, and finished around midnight. all mine is missing is the face. i did it in Hobby Lobby Dreamy Baby Chenille which is not as big as the velvetspun, but it still came out very nice. mine is purple, but she doesn't have a face yet, cause i don't like the way the black looks. so, i will work on that tomorrow.
i will definitely make more of these.
chrislt8, i say thanks becasue i was trying to figure out something to put the poly-fill inside of, and i just couldn't htink of anything, so i will use the panty hose idea next time.

It is kind of double knitting on the head, but it's not an open tube. I could barely get my fingers in there to stuff it. I sprayed my stuffing with some lavendar sheet spray and let it dry before I stuffed it - aromatherepy and what not! I also gave it away without taking a pic, but they're so easy I will absolutely make more.
did anyone else think that the eyes were just a little creepy looking? I know you can't sew buttons on there or aything, and embroidery isn't my best skill....

Now for my question. Why did you call that velvetspun yarn NASTY? Is it a bad yarn? Scratchy? Just wondering if I shojld I buy that yarn or not.

in case anyone is still confused on the head portion, i thought i would try to make it clearer.
the pattern calls for purl, slip across on an even number of stitches.
so, after you do one row, on the next row you are purling the last rows slips, then on the next row, you are purling the previous rows slips, and so on. this causes a pocket, which make it a front and back.
that may not be any clearer, if you still don't get it, just trust the pattern. it really works out, if you don't forget and purl the wrong stitches.
as far as making kitty ears, i would knit the head as written, then only cast on 9 stitches and subtract 8 stitches from all the instructions as given, so you should have short pointy ears instead of long pointy ears. if that doesn't work, pm me, and i will try it myslef so i can tell you how to make it work.

Well, I ended up frogging the whole thing AGAIN because, while traveling to my other house this weekend (another story), the needle somehow got slipped out fot he piece and it ended up a mess. I guess this black kitty isn't very lucky, is it?
Anyhoo, I'm NOT giving up! I'll CO again and give it another go.
Has anyone ever done this in cotton? Just wondering..........

07-23-2007, 12:10 PM
okay well it looks pretty, but when you knit with it because it is acrylic and i dunno weird the way its put together it has no GIVE so its just hard to knit with, very hard. Then it doesn't knit up very even, I'm sure washiing it will fix that but it looks all lumpy and slug-like. I think once it's done and washed it will be fine but knitting WITH it is not fun. it's not scratchy, it just has no give and is lumpy.

I found this yarn for $3 at Mike's today. Plus, my friend had a baby boy, so I'm going to make one.
I'm already confused though. What does it mean to knit in the front and back of first stitch? And do I do that each row from 1-6 on the first stitch?
As you can tell, I'm fairly new at this. But, it's darling and I know she'll love it for her new little blessing.

Yes you are going to K1 F&B on the first stitch for the 1st 6 rows. There is a video in the Glossy section of this website you can watch to see how this stitch is completed.

Now another question. I am ready for row 40. It says "Cast on 12 stitches for paws, knit to end of row, 64 stitches"
I've never cast on mid project. I just finished row 40, so how do I cast on there. I've only done long tail cast on, do I need to do another type? Where do I do it?

I have recently gone made again for crochet and found the crochet version of this pattern. I've got some Caron Glimmer in lime green with a silver sparkle and purple with a silver sparkle that I got at JoAnn's a while ago for .97 a skein. I think I'll give the bunny a try with this. Ha! I found it!
Row 62 K2tog across row – 14 sts.
Row 63 Knit into front and back of each st across row – 28 sts.
Row 64 *P 1, sl 1, rep from * across row.
Rep Row 64 until Head measures 3½in [9 cm].
Make sure you've worked Row 63 and have 28 sts. Look at Row 64 and watch this video, Knitting in The Round Straight (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPGXNoG0fjA). I just used this method to start a pocket on a sweater. Very useful to know.
Welcome to KH!
