View Full Version : dishclothes....

I must admit I have never made dishcloths before and it feels like I am learning a difficult stitch or something. I have been at this for days and it seems like I can't even make a simple dishcloth. I crocheted a couple using worsted weight and cotton yarn and to me they are either too thick or too big. I tried knitting a couple using cotton yarn and a couple looks holey. Why can't I make a simple dishcloth? I am making them to sell at a crafts show here in town.
I have no idea what size a dishcloth should be. I was thinking of trying to make different sizes but don't have a clue what those sizes should be. Why can't I get such a simple thing?

All the ones I've ever knit start with 35-45 stitches. Some do seem larger than others, but cotton will shrink a tad when it's washed.

It took me quite a few attemps to make one that I actually liked. A popular one you could do would be in the Mason Dixion book. I think this is it http://www.jimsyldesign.com/~dishbout/kpatterns/texturedss.html

This is the one I really like:
http://cf.geocities.com/knitdishclothcorner/ It's the triangle one. It's easy to memorize and I always keep one in the car. Even if we just go to Target, I'm knitting.

thanks. I will do a couple of those for myself and maybe that will get me on the right track. By working an actual pattern I may have better luck with getting a general idea of how it is done and maybe I can create my own to sell .Thanks again
