So, after my HP PoA scarf knitting marathon, I let my poor hands rest a mere 16 hours and have started my Dark Mark Illusion scarf. I'm on Row 10 of Chart 1, and have learned several things ...

1. I'm a painfully slow purl knitter.
2. My 1st rows after casting on are horribly fugly. :hair:

I frogged the scarf twice (the first because I hated the first knitted row, the second because I mysteriously had 34 stitches by row 21 - you're supposed to have only 31 :teehee:), but my third attempt is going well. My first knitted row is still fugly, but I'll hide it with the fringe  only my KH friends will know my secret  Other than that, I'm enjoying knitting this scarf, the pattern is very easy to read, and it knits up really quickly!

I'm using Caron's Simply Soft in Black and Caron's Simply Soft Brites in fluorescent green, and US7 needles. Despite having just 2.5 hours of sleep this morning because of the midnite movie, I can't wait to get home and knit! :woohoo:

Hi U. J.:
If your scarf is the one from Storm Moon Knits pattern I can't wait to see a picture of it (even if it isn't I still would love to see it). Good luck, don't forget to give those wrist a rest.

i just noticed something. the way the mark shows up when you lay it down actually looks like the mark when it appears in the sky in GoF. very cool.

ya know what's funny? the big three (michaels, ac moore, and jo-ann) are all 30 minutes from my house across the street from each other. then there's a michaels about 12 minutes away. i've checked all of them and the only one that carries that green (limelight) and the yellow (lemonade) for my house (hufflepuff) is the michaels 12 minutes away. i think it's a sign that i'm supposed to do the dark mark. :roflhard: :roflhard:

i just l:heart:ve the way it floats on your scarf. it's very engrossing.

My kids LOVED it! We went to the midnight premiere and my 6-year old actually stayed awake to watch the entire movie! She was scared at all - she was more scared in PoA with the dementors.

I'm finally done knitting the background section in the middle part of my Dark Mark scarf and am ready to start knitting Chart 3!! I took my Dark Mark scarf to a HP 7 book party last night - here's a photo of my girl passed out on a bench at about 11:47 pm :) She's using her HP CoS scarf as a pillow and had to make sure her Harry bookmark was right next to her :teehee:

Here you go Storm Moon Knits Dark Mark Illusion Scarf (http://thestormmoon.blogspot.com/2007/05/dark-mark-illusion-scarf-pattern.html). She also has a pattern for a Dark Mark bag (http://www.freewebs.com/theloveplant/knitting/darkmarkbag.html). And you can find TONS of patterns at the Leaky Lounge (http://www.leakylounge.com/index.php?showforum=156)!

Okay i printed the charts-but it looks really hard!I've never used a chart like this before and my printer doesn't print in color-will that matter? Thanks for sharing the pattern...do you think i can do it?!!!!

UnspeakableJoy

psquidy - it looks complicated but once you get the hang of it you'll be okay! You may want to follow the charts online and highlight the green rows to match your paper copy.

Just remember the 1st row of the chart is the right side, so all odd numbered rows are considered right sides and must be knitted across. The even numbered rows are considered wrong sides, and must be purled across unless the box has a dot in it, which means you must knit that stitch. I'm happy to help if you have any questions! I had to frog the scarf 4 times before I got it right :teehee: but once I got the hang of it, it was easy peasy! You can do it!

So, on the odd numbered rows we read from the right and even numbered rows we read from the left?

Yep!! You got it!! I think that was the reason for frog #2 for me :teehee: I didn't read the chart correctly.

I would never have thought to read the chart the opposite direction! Good thing you asked that knit knut! I have a rather embarrasing thing to admit- I've sort of squeezed by all my patterns that i've done in the past without really understanding the right side wrong side thing. Every time i think i have it-it's wrong. Could someone clear that up for me?
Thanks so much for thinking i can do it! It doesn't sound so bad when you explain it like that. Im gonna DO IT

I have been doing this one too crafty frog. i haave been posting about it in the knit along section under Harry Potter knit aalong.

I can't wait to see how yours turned out. I am on the middle part right now and it is going a little slower since I decided to learn how to continental knit after 10 years of English knitting. but I'm getting faster everyday!
