View Full Version : Colorful Felted Shoulder Bag

I felt like making a felted bag so much weeks ago and I made one eventually. I used up some of my left over wool yarn to make this shoulder bag. No specific pattern to follow, I just make it up while I knitted along. I made two straps from the side of the bag, crocheted the edge. Then felted the bag in my kitchen sink! haha~ Using super hot water alternating with frozen cold water. The bag turned out felted nicely as I want. I tied a knot at the strap after the bag was dried. I also lined this bag with a sweet blue cotton fabric and it was the very first time I made a lining for a bag. Its definitely a good tutorial. I had so much fun cutting the fabric, hand-sewed it slowly and patiently. And also, first time I put on a magnetic snap. I really enjoy making this bag. :blooby:

That is a fantastic bag. I'm very impressed by the lining. I've been knitting up a storm, but I can't for the life of me sew.

Since I got so many compliments here, I am more than happier to share the pattern here with everyone.
I knitted this bag in round using circular needle 4.5mm. I THINK I cast on 120 st , place marker then joined and knit in round till 2". Place markers in next round ready for decreasing. (Actually you don't have to decrease as you cant really see any obvious shaping effect after felting! haha)
K10, PM, K40, PM, K20, PM, K40, K10.
Round 1 - K10, slip marker (SM), SSK, knit till 2 st before marker, K2tog, SM, K20, SM, SSK, knit till 2st before marker, K2tog, SM, K10.
Then KNIT 7 round
Repeat last 8 round until bag measures 6" and you are ready to make the base. Drop the first marker you place for the round joined.
Round 1 - [Knit till 2st before M, K2tog, SM, SSK] x 4
Round 2- Knit all

Repeat these 2 rounds until side stitches left 2st. Then place each st to front and back stitches. You will have same stitches at front and back. Get your bag Right Side facing now and do the 3 needles bind off.

I crochet 2 rounds of SC and 1 round of DC at the top before I picked up 12st at the side to make the straps. I knit the strap in stockinette st till 8", make decrease at the beginning and the end at every RS row till 1 st left, bind off. Crochet around the strap in SC one round.

THATS IT! hehe... your bag is done! REady for felting!
I hope you have no problem understanding the pattern gal! I really tried! haha
By the way, if you have any question, you can email me. =)
