Hey everyone! I have a question about making your own sock pattern, and it may be an obvious yes or no to you more experienced knitters, but I just don't know.

I have a very basic sock pattern that I love to use. I want to make some Aran braid or other cable socks, but I can't find the pattern I want. Is it possible to just make my basic sock the way I normally would, but just add the cables? I know that it might be a little more snug with the cable on it, but I'd actually like that.

So would it work to just add a cable onto your basic sock pattern?

Yep!

A simple basic sock pattern is the basis for ANY sock you wanna make. Add cables, lace, intarsia, stranded colorwork, whatever you want to make them your own. :)

Sure, just center them over the leg and instep, but here are Eunny Jang's Bayerische socks that have intricate (but fairly simple) cables over them.
