Does anyone else knit/crochet to nascar?

The race is on tonight...

I'm a huge Tony Stewart fan..

Haha yeah... I know.. I'm a nerd... :D

Anyone else?

08-25-2007, 08:25 PM
Got it on the TV right now. It a good time to knit, but I'm so busy with classes right now that I can't take advantage of it.

Oh, and we'll have to be enemies...I'm a Jeff Gordon/Jimmie Johnson fan.

08-25-2007, 08:35 PM
I'm not going there... :P

08-25-2007, 10:29 PM

What, no cat-fight? Trust me, I can handle it.

08-25-2007, 10:32 PM
Oh, I totally knit and listen to the race on the TV.

My racer is Dale Jr. - don't diss me, I was a fan waybackwhen!!!

08-25-2007, 10:40 PM
Awwww, he'll be joining my guys soon. You're a-okay. :teehee:

08-25-2007, 11:25 PM
I'm just a sucker for tony... I've been a fan since he started forever ago... that and he's kinda cute :)

08-25-2007, 11:29 PM
that and he's kinda cute :)

08-25-2007, 11:31 PM
Awwww, he'll be joining my guys soon. You're a-okay. :teehee:

Yes, thank the lord, he will have a better owner than the one he has now ...

(can't stand evil greedy stepmothers) ....

08-25-2007, 11:33 PM
I'd be willing to bet that he's counting the hours. Gordon and Johnson will appreciate the fan support that DE will bring too. Next season is gonna be fun! Look out Tony...here we come! :out:

08-25-2007, 11:35 PM
See, I am totally going against the girly grain here .. if I were to be a fan of a driver strictly based on his looks, I would go with Jimmy Johnson. I don't even think Dale jr. is all that cute, and he's my guy.

08-25-2007, 11:37 PM
Gotta agree with you there...Johnson wins on looks over DE or TS. Hands down.

Course I watch for the strategy. ;)

08-26-2007, 12:33 AM
Nah... i've always had my heart set on Tony... I think it's the whole bad boy thing :D

08-27-2007, 12:18 PM
I've been a Jeffy-poo fan since High School  But I LOVE Kenny Wallace. :teehee: He is so funny. Can't stand the Busch boys. :!!!:

I do knit and listen to the race.

Kasey Kahne fan here! The Husband's a DJ fan. Tony's second on both our lists. Junior is probably 3rd. We're not Jeffie fans, although his sister is.

We got to go Bristol on Sat., & had a great time! My SIL gave us her tickets (she's not a night person, & the race ends too late for her, although she did take her son to the Busch race on Fri.). I brought some knitting to the track, and actually got a bit done before the race started.

08-27-2007, 01:12 PM
Ok .. I just found this and am so excited to have some fellow Nascar knitters! .. (note my screen name :yay:)

If it weren't for Nascar & Speed channel - I would never get any knitting done :whoosh:

We are big time Nascar folk. My husband = bad boy Tony S. Me = Kevin Harvick ... (watch out Juan Pablo)

My husband was FORCED to pick and stick.. as he was 1st a Ward Burton fan (and then what happens..Ward won the Daytona) then he went with Kenseth and then Tony... It is all about the sponsors and CHEVY.

Then we went to Infineon and I told him had to pick one and STICK with him.. and it ended up Tony.. and now I get to to hear all about it on a weekly basis :tap:

I have only been to 2 races live, both at Infineon - it was awesome! We moved to Texas in 2005 and have yet to go to TMS but we have it in our sights for Nov. Everyone says it is such a traffic nightmare that it has spooked us. I hear the best way to do it is with a package and take a bus in.

We were teased for a long time about watching but since many family members keep one eye on the races - it is a long distance connection to us (those we left behind in Cali).

So here's a question .. has anyone made any Nascar related items? would love to hear and see them!!

Boogity boogity knitters...

08-27-2007, 01:47 PM
Living in Charlotte, it's hard NOT to be a fan. (though I was one before moving here)

Never knitting anything Nascar related.

08-27-2007, 03:40 PM
I want to come to NC and take a tour of some the shops. I have a friend that moved to Denver, NC and he DISPISES Nascar .. I said he better be careful , he might find a checkered flag burned into his lawn if the locals ever hear him :)

My neighbors daughter just moved back to Houston from Mooresville. She went in hopes of working for one of the race teams .. but after 2 years was not able to break in .. so she is back home. She was able to see/meet a few of the drivers and team as she worked for Enterprise. And many times just at the local airport she would see some of the "guys".

Have a good one...

08-27-2007, 04:02 PM
For whatever reason the sound of Nascar races just make me drop off. I can only take like 15 minutes before I fall fast asleep. :passedout:

08-27-2007, 04:24 PM
Haha cool... I'm so glad I'm not alone...

Figured i'd make us a little icon to throw in your signature if you like..

Just remember to save it to your own computer. :)

I haven't done any specific NASCAR stuff. A woman on one of my Yahoo groups has come up with some driver-related dishcloth patterns, but I haven't done any of them yet. Her blog is here (http://woodhilldesignknits.blogspot.com/).

I'm also a member of another Yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/campsquarecrew/) that knits/crochets squares for afghans for the Victory Junction Gang Camp.

I also want to go tour some of the shops. I know it won't be too hard to convince the Husband. He really wants to go to the Petty museum. His sister & her son were able to take a "behind-the-scenes" kind of tour at one of the shops (courtesy of a friend).

After our experience at Bristol, I'm thinking the tour bus thing is the way to go. It's not so much the getting there and parking as it is the finding the car and getting out and then driving home. At least if it's a bus, someone else is doing the driving, and you get to sleep!!

Oh, and if any of you are on Ravelry, there is a NASCAR group in there (go fast, knit left).

HI Riss .. I love the logo.
I saved it and tried to add to my signature but the system said it was too large. Did you do anything special to get it into your signature?

Thanks KC .. btw .. the my husband looked over my should and thought the KH stood for Kevin Harvick .. LOL well it wasn't suppose to .. for me that works PERFECT.

Riss, thanks for the icon!! You rock!! :woot:

nascardudette, I resized mine at http://www.resize2mail.com/. I just told it to make mine 75% smaller (I think). It needs to be less than 9kb.

08-28-2007, 11:38 PM
misha rf - thanks a lot for the link to the resizer website.
Photography is my other hobby and that site will be a FANTASTIC tool for me!

Take care.....

08-29-2007, 12:06 AM
I wasn't even thinking in terms of KB.. I was aiming for read-ability. lol

Sorry guys :)

08-29-2007, 09:06 AM

Ok, so could you make us cars for our fav drivers...perhaps in the right color scheme or with the numbers on them?

Like you have nothing better to do. ;)

08-29-2007, 10:26 AM
maaaaayyyybe :D

08-29-2007, 10:57 AM

Okay, I'm sure I've forgotten someone. Just leave a message with any requests...

I know... I have no life... lol

EDIT: The images are 150px wide, and hopefully, under 9K. :)
Fixed! They should all be about 8-9K now.

9 car?? Please??

Thank you!!

I was a #3 fan way back when and actually saw the race in Charlotte when Dad pushed son across the finish line. So when he passed I naturally became a #8 fan.

BUT did you ever watch the show Nascar 360? It made me really like Harvick and Kenny Wallace. I normally cheer for #8 but if he wrecks I'll go for #9 or anyone trying to beat Kyle Busch.

Nascar is the best to knit too on Sundays. Green flag racing is perfect for zoning out to a pattern and then BAM! You've got a wreck and something interesting. Hubby always lets me know when something good just happens.

08-29-2007, 04:38 PM

Okay, I'm sure I've forgotten someone. Just leave a message with any requests...

EDIT: The images are 150px wide, and hopefully, under 9K. :)
EDIT AGAIN: Okay.. photoshop hates me and made every single file 14k after I hand edited each one to be under 9k... *sigh* I can't get em any smaller than that without sacrificing major image quality... You guys are gonna have to work your magic with that site previously posted I guess... *cries*

Did you try save for web? That should get them in under the file size

08-29-2007, 04:48 PM
*bangs her head off the desk repeatedly* Duh duh duh duh duh...

I was just doing a save as... stupid girl... lol
I'll go fix em and re-upload them...

08-29-2007, 04:53 PM
glad to help. it will reduce the resolution a little, but might be better than what you did have.

08-29-2007, 05:03 PM
Thank you!!
I really should have thought of that. I'm gonna go turn in my graphic design degree now... *blush* :D

08-30-2007, 08:08 AM
BUT did you ever watch the show Nascar 360? It made me really like Harvick and Kenny Wallace.

yes, that's how I came to not hate Harvick antmore. He's so funny off the track.

08-31-2007, 05:01 PM
ok .. I feel really stupid ... I have had little success at reducing the icons to a size the this forum will accept but still look like the ones posted by the OP

I used the resize web site 3 times or so til it was 9k .. and as you can see on my signature .. it is reduced the quality/size.

What did you guys do to get this resized?

I use to resize my photos with MS powertool resizer .. but it is not Vista compatible.. gotta love technology .. don't you?

thanks for any help you can offer ... KC:tap:

08-31-2007, 05:43 PM
try grabbing the images again from page 3. I re-uploaded and re-linked them so that the file size is smaller and you dont have to worry about resizing them. If that still doesn't work, send me a PM with your email and i'll email you the one you'd like. :)

08-31-2007, 07:21 PM
Riss .. YOU ROCK! thanks sooooooooo much for the resized icon...
now I can go back to knitting :knitting: Have to start up some new 6"x9" squares for the HAP project!

Should be some good racing this weekend. Going to be late for us central and also east coast folk.

09-01-2007, 10:18 AM
Did you see how the track temp was 150 degrees yesterday during qualifying? Sheesh. I dunno how they do it..

09-01-2007, 12:30 PM
yep .. my family says they finally have some real heat .. and of course they are not excited about how much. And they were upset with the 30% humidity .. hmmm we were thrilled last nite that we had 60% :woot: those poor folks in the firesuits .. guess it is a good thing it is a night race!

So Riss .. lots going on in the Gibbs camp huh? My hubby is a 20 man .. and a die hard CHEVY guy .. so I told him he had to give up the Avalanche now that JGR is going Toyota ....:roflhard: and the other bummer is we are NOT Busch brother fans .. whatsoever .. going to be interesting in '08

09-01-2007, 12:41 PM
I love the night races.. The cars under the lights are just so purdy.

I feel so out of the loop... JGR is going toyota huh? Maybe Juan Pablo has "rubbed off" on Tony Stewart a but too much :P

I needa catch up on my racing gossip. Before I broke my leg, I'd catch Racing Rocks on the radio on sunday mornings before the race. But not anymore... :(

09-02-2007, 06:09 AM
Riss - I love the movie Fifth Element.

"Big Badaboom"

09-02-2007, 02:42 PM
It's one of my favorites. I was looking for a quote from The Devil Wears Prada, but can't find the one I wanted. I'm just gonna have to take the clicker to it and write it down while watching it...

But, Fifth Element works for now. :)

09-10-2007, 01:42 PM
I felt so bad for Jr. To lose yet another engine and at a very important race. :hair:

Also after leading all ding dong year Jeff is now second. :tap:

09-10-2007, 02:41 PM
Well .. that was my most nailbiting race of the year !!! I was wishing that, of course Harvick made the chase, but that Jr would also .. would much rather have him in than Busch. But think about it, if that was next year .. it would have been yet another Hendrick domination w/Jr in the pack!! It is going to be rough for us non Hendrick folk next year!

09-11-2007, 08:59 AM

Ooooh, us too! We love the "bad boy" of racing. I am an Indiana native, grew up around South Bend, but love Tony over Ryan Newman or David Stremme, who are both South Bend natives. Check out my vacation blog. There are a couple pics of the Vegas Motor Speedway we took while we were out there a week ago. I always knit while we watch the NASCAR races. A lot of times the race is on at the same time as the CUBS game so I toggle back and forth between the two as we are huge CUBS fans too.

I was sick over poor JR. He has had a rough time this year with several blown engines, not to mention all the trouble with that Step Mother of his and her antics with everything. I think he has been top notch in how he has handled everything and his daddy should be proud of the kind of man he turned out to be.

I am looking for some help and recommendations for planning a trip to Texas Motorspeedway in Nov.

We live in Houston and plan to drive to Ft Worth. Does anyone have recommendations on reputible Nascar Package companies?

I actually found a hotel and tickets .. and it seems cheaper than the packages .. but we also want to use the Coach service to the track and back .. and I can not find that "ala carte" ...

Any suggestions or maybe ideas of forums I could check in with?

Thanks in advance .... :woot:

Got any 2 car icons that say "but I mean Rusty, not Kurt, even though he isn't bad in person"?:D

Kenny Wallace is hilarious. I've been on his fan board for years. I honestly don't know where NASCAR is going, but Kenny's got a dirt car and that's good enough for me!

10-08-2007, 03:14 PM

Just special for you Becky. :)
