OK, all you seasoned sock knitters out there in KH land.... how difficult would it be for me to knit my first pair of socks from just following a pattern, without attending a class or watching someone do it? Be honest now. I can knit in the round, graft, do short rows. Would I tear my hair out in frustration or just be minorly irritated as I worked out the kinks?
I have a ball of nifty self patterning trekking sock yarn. It was going to be a sweater but that wasn't working out the way I wanted it to, so I'd like to make a pair of socks for my DS.

Oh, girl, you are SO READY to do this.........you CAN definitely do it on your own.
I did it, with just one (wonderful) person on standby for question-answering..........you've got ALL OF US !
Go for it..........and, yes, you might get a little irritated, but more than that, you'll get VERY DELIGHTED !

This is what I used to knit my first few pair of socks on dpn's. Now I knit them on two circulars. I haven't tried toe up, but I'm going to make myself do it!

I did my first socks following Silver's Sock Class: http://www.cometosilver.com/socks/SockClass_Start.htm
It's not really a pattern (although she does tell you how many stitches to use and how many inches to knit for), rather it's step by step instructions on making a cuff down sock with a heel flap, for any weight of yarn!!
