I'm making a little baby dress that calls for a fabric skirt.

I used a pattern from "Cozy Knits for Cuddly Babies".

The yarn choice was easy - Berroco Cotton Twist in a pretty light pink.

Now's the hard part - choosing the fabric! :help:

Which one do you like? (Click photo for closer view)

I vote for #1, the color matches the yarn the best, IMO. What a sweet little dress that will be.

BTW, where did you find a pattern for this? I have a 13 m.o. grand daughter (took her first steps yesterday!) who I'd love to make this for.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I got the pattern from "Cozy Knits for Cuddly Babies" (http://www.amazon.com/Knits-Cuddly-Babies-Country-Living/dp/1588164357). There are so many cute patterns in that book!

I like one or two, but think I favor number one. This is going to be cute.

I'm torn between 1 and 2 myself! But, I think that any of them will look cute. I'm thinking of making a little hat with the same fabric.

I like #1 best, with two a close second. I like the size of the pattern on #1 with the knit piece (and the color match looks perfect on my screen).

I originally intended to use #1, but when I saw the other fabrics in my stash I liked them too! :teehee:

OK, here's another view of the fabrics, photographed alone with the knitted bodice. I think this will help with choosing your favorite mix. Isn't it amazing how the color of the yarn changes when you place different fabrics with it?:

For me it is number 3.

It seems that most of you like #1, with #2 in a close second. And #3 has a definite following as well.

I guess you're all as torn between these fabrics as I am!
:teehee:

Maybe I should just put the three numbers in a hat and draw one out.

I decided to go with #1, because it seemed to be the winner of the poll. I know there is some time left on the poll, but I was impatient. :teehee:

So, without further ado.....here is the baby dress!

I'm so in love with that dress. I can't stop looking at it!

I was going to make a hat to go with the dress, but I think I'll make a fabric headband instead.

I want wewantmore to get it before the weather gets cooler here in North Carolina.

I was gonna pick #3, because it seemed to be so dainty, but now that I see it, I love the fabric you chose!

I'm giving it to wewantmore for her new little baby. We'll have to see if it fits first, I guess. (I made it a size 3-6 months.)

how adorable- my mom made some of these for my daughter in various colors and they were just perfect. when they were a little big, we put a T shirt under them. as she grew, we put shorts or leggings under it. they were her favorite dresses. what a lovely gift!!!

Okay I've GOT to get my hands on this pattern... TOOOO adorable and blends two of my favorite hobbies...knitting and sewing.

I definitely vote for the first swatch (far left). The color appears to blend the best with the knitted top and it is TOO cute. Can't wait to see finished object.

The pattern is SO EASY! I just love it. :inlove:

It only took about a day to knit the top. And making the skirt was easy-peasy. I'm sure the next one I make will be quicker.

Plus, I'm thinking of how I could personalize it with lace edging, or crochet edging, or a knitted flower. It really has lots of room for creative possibilities.

You know, I bet that some knitted lace at the hem of the dress would look darling!

Hi,
I vote for the first one,it absolutely looks the best with the color of the top. IMHO, the print almost doesn't matter, because the color is the first and most important thing that you see. The 1st one called out to me, it looks great with that shade of pink.
I have a little site with wonderful buttons and fabric that I think you would really like. I signed up thinking that many people would enjoy the buttons that I have on the site. I've been making clothes for many years and wanted to share some of the goodies that I've found.
Please check out my little shop and tell me what you think! :

Sandy, that is just gorgeous!! I love it! Would you mind telling me how big the sizing goes in that book? I would love to make that dress for my girls, but they're definitely not babies anymore.

Abbily, its a baby book, so it only goes up to a size 18 months. Sorry! :pout:

That dress is sooo beautiful!

Okay, here's a question from someone without a clue about combining sewing and knitting...Did you have to sew the fabric onto the knitted top by hand, using a sewing machine, or how in the world?

I need to find time to pull my sewing machine out of the box and learn how to use it...

Shandeh
09-07-2007, 01:15 PM
Hi Lisa Kay!

I used a sewing machine, and actually sewed across the seam three times! The first time was just basting it on. The second time was the first good seam, and the third time was another seam closer to the top, so the skirt would hang better.

I was amazed to see that the sewing thread didn't show through at ALL! I used a thread that was exactly the same color as the yarn. Also, the yarn I used (Berroco Cotton Twist) is kinda "thready" anyway, so I guess that's why it blended in so well.
