Hello Everyone! This is my first time posting and I am somewhat digitally illiterate. Can anyone tell me how much yardage is needed for the Elizabeth Zimmerman Pi R Square shawl? The weight measurement doesn't really help me when I'm trying to figure out how much yarn to buy. Thanks a Yahoo!!:knitting:

I'm not familiar with the specifics of this particular pattern, but I'm assuming it uses laceweight yarn? If it helps, Knit Picks sells their "Alpaca Cloud" (http://www.knitpicks.com/Alpaca+Cloud_YD5420108.html) 100% alpaca laceweight yarn in 50g hanks, and those are 440 yards.
Here's a reference that may be helpful:
YARN WEIGHT Yards Per Ounce [ypo] or Meters Per Gram [mpg]:

Julie (DotMom) made hers from KnitPicks Shimmer (laceweight) and she used 3 skeins (about 1320 yards).

your shawl doesn't have to be of laceweight yarn
I don't know if you are getting the pattern out of one of her books, but yardage will depend on what yarn and needles you choose and how big you want the shawl to be and how loose/tight you knit!
