I bought the wrong size knitting needles. Size 8 5mm 29 inch cir. I should have gotten 16in. I'm just starting to buy knitting needle because i just started knitting. Is this a size i should keep or should I just exchange them?

Size 8's are a commonly used size. You can use a circular needles for flat as well as round knitting. So chances are you would use them eventually. So just hang onto them.

I use my size eights a lot. Keep them.

That's a good size for sweaters, and if you make a blanket you'll want to do it on circs because of the number of stitches and the weight.

You can try magic loop/half ML with them if you're trying to make a hat. CO, pinch the cord in half and scoot the stitches to both ends of the needles. Join and knit until you get to where the cord is pulled out. Repeat.

I'll keep them then. I just didn't know about the 29in cir. But I didn't think about making a blanket or magic loop (which I have no idea how to do.....yet!!)

Go to the Advanced techniques section for small diameter knitting videos.

I have 3 sets of size 8 29" circs. Great for the 2 circ method or when making a bottom up sweater when you divide for the sleeves/shoulder.

Well in all honesty I figured I'd get a good enough reason to keep the 'wrong' size if I posted it here. It's just that I couldn't think of a good enough reason to tell my husband why I was purchasing yet ANOTHER set of knitting needles.
Thank God he won't set a foot in the laundy room or he'd find my hidden stash of yarn.

Oh, he'll get over it and husbands just ask too many questions sometimes! LOL! Mine can't say anything about my "stash" or he'll have to justify all that fishing tackle!
