I have a pattern that says to use Noro Silk Garden Yarn. Do I have to use this yarn or can I use any Silk Yarn. have only every knitted with double knit before.

Silk Garden is a blend of yarns, a bit fuzzier than straight silk. But if your gauge is the same, it's certainly worth trying.
