View Full Version : New Taglines on Our KH Names?

astonh

Maybe I'm slow but I JUST noticed the new "tags" that go with our names, depending I'm assuming on how much we yap here. Didn't see anything on initial search... Anyone know the new breakout/what all the new tag names are? I saw, thus far:

1st leg of the journey
Knitting the Flap
Working the Gussett

Was just curious is all. Everyone have a great day!

Looks like it's based upon post count.

I was wondering (on the sock KAL)

are we working toe up or top down

Cia

Lieke I think it's top down, because I was a "junior member" and now I'm "ribbing the cuff" so I suppose they start at the top

I was thinking that some people here must be on their 100th gusset by now!

Ok now I need sock terminology explained to me. I am guessing the flap I am knitting is the heel but what on earth is a gusset?

Sharly
10-04-2007, 11:13 AM
Melissa - I think the gusset is the part across the top of your foot at the instep??? Someone correct me if that is wrong!

Its the part of the sock that goes on your foot. Ok, I know that sounds vague but I mean after the heel and before the toes. Does that even make sense?:?? I hope so.

I had heard the term in sewing but as usual it means nothing to me as I make up my sewing. Probably why following a pattern while knitting has me so flummoxed.

I think it's cute, what a lovely idea. :teehee:

The gusset is the part where the sock starts out wider at the heel, and decreases down toward the toes.....that little wedge.

I think 'instepping out' is the cutest designation yet..........maybe I'll have to post nonsense little things all week just to get my name changed ! :roflhard:

Amy and the mods have been brainstorming these "member rank" titles for quite a while now. We all wanted something fun, but something neutral that didn't discriminate or cause any elitism. The sock making ranks were the result of that brainstorming, and we're thrilled it's getting great comments.

The ranks increase depending on your number of posts, but do not imply anything significant about your participation. It's strictly FOR FUN! :cheering:

For your information, these are the ranks in order:

Casting On
Ribbing the Cuff
1st Leg of the Journey
Knitting the Flap
Turning the Heel
Working the Gusset
Instepping Out
Grafting the Toe
2nd Sock, I Rock
Sock Yarn Bliss

We do hope you find them enjoyable! I don't know the actual number of posts to move to the next level though... maybe Amy will chime in on that. :)

Personally, I don't really care at what post numbers the breaks are but I was excited to get to see what all the "stages" of knitting a sock from the top down were. Hee heee.

They are cute! Thanks Silver for providing insight as to the entire list of terms.

I am keeping it a mystery for know. I'm enjoying all the speculation. One hint: the rankings do progress exponentially, so the first few are easily obtainable. But as you progress through the ranks, each one gets further and further apart.

Nothing like a little incentive to get us posting, eh? :teehee:

You know that you're a KH addict/geek when you post frequently just to finish your "virtual" socks!

Thank you for the continued efforts to keep this place fresh, friendly, and fun!!!

I actually do know how to do ribbing, so maybe this is a good fit for me.

What do we do when we're finished with this sock? Start on the next one?

I am not sure... but I think I am the only one who has posted so far who is Grafting the toe (besides the admins of course whose can't be seen.) The irony of course is that i can only get this far on baby socks. Adult socks i lose momentum LONG before I get to the toes.

(momentum = interest btw) :teehee:

Mcknitty - I haven't knit any either and don't plan too, except maybe slipper socks. Hate messing with tiny needles.

brendajos - I'm at grafting the toe too, though I think you have a couple hundred more posts than I do...

Jennmarie68
10-10-2007, 04:23 AM
Let's see where am I?

I did do a pair socks so I guess I'm ahead of my tagline, but I ended up screwing something up somwhere and they're a little funny looking. But they're soft and cozy so I wear them as slippers now. I'm just happy I can say I did a pair of socks.

Someday I'll try a "real" pair of socks for my SO, but he's so picky I'll have to wait till I'm good at it, cause if they're off, even just a little, he won't wear them....

Thanks for the explanation...I wasn't sure what was going on, then I started reading through at random and realized we were all a collective sock in progress...how cool and clever!

Thanks for keeping it fresh and fun!:cheering:
