View Full Version : Update: Done - IK Dickinson Pullover

10-05-2007, 06:16 PM
I'm almost there! :woot: So, I got IK for the first time in August and I loved the Dickinson Pullover. My mom thought it was beautiful so I decided to make it for her for a Christmas gift.

I am so happy with it, and so proud of myself because its only the second sweater I've done. And the first was pretty easy as it was cropped and done in the round (Very Cropped Top Hoodie) Anyways, I'm done with the front, back, and sleeves so now all I have to do is seam the shoulders, add the collar, seam the sides and sleeves and I'm done! :) Here it is (I hope these pictures work!)

Great job so far!

I LOVE that sweater and it's not even put together yet! I can't wait to see what it looks like all put together. I've gotten away from knitting sweaters, but with the cooler weather on the way, I might just have to start one. Great job!

that is beautiful. I was thinking of doing it at some point. Did you fine it difficult?

10-05-2007, 09:39 PM
Magnificent! Please post again when you have it all seamed up. It's so pretty.

When I first looked at it I thought it was going to take forever and be pretty hard, but it was alot easier than I thought. I found that halfway through the center cable pattern repeats I pretty much "got it". You really just get into the repetition of the pattern and don't have to look at the chart as often as you'd think.

It also didn't take as long as I thought. I think I started it in August and I'm almost done. I did a full time internship in August and started school at the beginning of September! Now that I think of it, I don't know how I've managed working on this plus all my school work! :noway:

Anyways, I definitely think you should make one! It really is a beautiful pattern

MaleKnitter - It wasn't my favorite at first either, but she loved it so I decided to make it as a gift and now I love it - I might even make myself one now (if I can find the time!)

I really enjoyed knitting it too because it wasn't just the same thing back and forth, but the pattern repeats make it so that you don't have to keep reading the pattern/chart because after a while you just know what comes next

that looks great!!! What yarn did you use?

10-08-2007, 09:07 PM
Ooooooh.... Fantastic work!

10-08-2007, 09:19 PM
I cheated big time with the yarn - the yarn it called for was about $10, and it needed 14 skeins so I could not afford that. I looked around for cheaper bulky wool yarn but I couldn't find a big enough skein for a good price and a color I loved - so I ended up using Bernat Softee Chunky (I know some people hate acrylic! But it was wicked soft!) in New Denim Heather. But I don't feel too bad, I'm still in college so all my extra money goes to books! :ick:

My mom loves this sweater, I handed her three knitting books and she chose this one as her favorite, I can't wait to start
and about the yarn-
thank you, my LYS is actually a wal-mart (unless i want to drive an extra 50 miles) so I can't get all of these brands that they suggest in the magazines, Bernat Softee Chunky is a yarn that I can actually find. :happydance:
So I am going to start as soon as I get the yarn

Also, I have some Bernat Softee Baby in Soft Lilac and I am going to make the "Tangled Yoke Cardigan" from that same copy of Interweave Knits for my stepmother.

This is only your SECOND sweater????? I've been knitting for nearly 2 years and haven't attempted anything that complicated yet. That is absolutely gorgeous - I especially love the color. Excellent job!

Knitknut - The pattern was from Interweave Knits Fall 2007 magazine, so Im pretty sure its still available. It was the first time I bought the magazine and I just got it at the grocery store, so Im not sure if you can order it online or if its just in stores?

As long as you like the yarn that's all that matters. I like acrylics as long as they're soft and look good. They're washable

10-10-2007, 04:35 AM
Wow! I just looked at that pattern in my IK mag last night and said... "nope, too hard!" I'm in awe!!

10-10-2007, 08:40 AM
Knitting Guy - I agree, and the yarn is soooo soft. I can't find it in any stores though (some website said its only in Canada for most stores?) I actually ended up ordering some more, I just have to find something to use it for now

10-10-2007, 09:15 AM
ONLY YOUR SECOND SWEATER??? :chair:D*mn that's fantastic! Beautiful color and amazing knitting. :notworthy:

10-15-2007, 06:37 PM
I found the magazine, thanks! Did you knit the gauge swatchfirst or just go for it?

10-15-2007, 08:43 PM
Wow, that is alot of work there! It looks great!

10-16-2007, 08:16 AM
I did do a gauge swatch (which I never do...) I only did one this time because I wasn't using the same yarn, and I couldn't go to a store to see/feel the yarn in the pattern. I only got through half the swatch though because I couldn't wait to start

10-16-2007, 08:53 AM
OMG that is GORGEOUS...I am in awe! :inlove:

Marvelous Job!!!!:notworthy:
