Also what do all those increase terms mean like m1a, m1t, m1l, krl, yo, basically what are the differences between them?

Have you looked at the increase part of Basic Techniques? Those are all different ways of making increase, some slant left or right, some are more hidden than others and YO makes a hole, for a lacey effect. Patterns will instruct you where to inc, sometimes mentioning which one to use - kfb is common. They're mostly made on edges, but can be in the middle of garments for shaping.
